    System updated, no clean install, everything is working fine, i found there is a "windows.old" folder, it is very big almost 20 Gb, should i delete it?
    It will get deleted automatically eventually (30 days I guess) even if you do nothing.

    Unless you need the disk space, I would leave it until you've used it a while and are sure you don't need to roll-back.

    Hi,

    Ive noticed too about an hout ago, that this AU seems to do something with the partitions during the upgrade process. I noticed there are now new recovery partitions on all my Windows devices about 450MB~ at the end of each disk, which weren't there before. This is insane, that Windows re-size your disk (which is dangerous and can always lead to corruption) without notifying or warn you. I guess something went wrong whatever for you sadly there. This AU is total garbage, but of course all the user on here be like "awesome patch :P" who just use their PC for Word.

    Also on one of my tablets which had a sd-card in there, the sd-card is now corrupt. All folders are gone on the disk and it has lots of LOST&FOUND entry.
    In general I agree with you that the setup could be written better. It should have detected the presence of the SD-card (or whatever else it likes to write to) and invited you to remove it before you proceed.

    No setup routine should ever touch anything but the partition it is supposed to install on except for user errors.

    Saying this Update is utter garbage is a bit over the top however.

    Cheers,

    Yepp. Nothing works. It always says "there was an error and the extension needs to be re-installed", which doesn't work of course. I found at least 20 bugs in just 20 minutes. Unbelievable. Welcome in the Windows as a service, aka as a never ending beta.

    Everything seems to be working fine here. Only installed Adblock, but seems to be working; no crashes.

    Edit: Just install Mouse Gestures as well, it too works fine. Must be something with your system.

    @GuardiaNz

    Like cereberus says, the data may still be there. Download Mini Tool Partition Wizard free and run it. It will show the drives and partitions.

    Rt click the problem one and click 'Explore'. Does it throw up an explorer screen showing folders and files? I had a drive like yours a while ago and managed to use the mini tool explorer to copy data to another drive. I then reformatted the drive and copied files back.

    But, if you don't have a large disk to copy files to...........

    You might also see if you can give it a drive letter. It may take a drive letter but when you exit mini tool that drive letter may disappear.

    It is a worry that an update can do this as 350 million computers need updating and most of these won't be owned by 'experts'.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

    Not if you know what you're doing. No offense intended.
    Not everyone knows what they're doing. Most users will simply wait for Windows Update to install it and won't even know about the hidden installation folder.

    It's good to explicitly take a backup and take control over when the install happens, and unplug drives etc.

    But what about Joe Public who is going to get updated one day when he/she isn't expecting it and is just using their computer? It's really not so good in that scenario as they won't have had an opportunity to make a backup first, so it needs to be 100% reliable.
    How many people do you know who are not tech savvy and do backups

    My user folders like Documents etc, are on my Data drive. If I unplug it during an upgrade I'll get errors on boot up even before I do the upgrade. I've been doing this since DOS and never unplugged any drives during an upgrade or clean install. This is the first time ever that I have lost a drive in the process.
    That's how I have my user folders. So if anything happened to the OS, I can just reinstall in about 20 minutes and be up and running again.

    Thank you for AndreyT & DavidY for your help, i decided to delete the "windows.old" folder for two reasons:
    1 i have a system image done before the update;
    2 as i never had any kind of problem with W10 in any of my programs and/or devices so i trust MS staff.
