    Hi there

Just remember if doing a CLEAN install you can't have more than 4 HDD's / partitions active - otherwise you'll get the dreaded "Can't install to this Disk / Partition" message.

Also if you have a laptop with an SD card inserted / micro SD card with adapter (a lot of laptops have SD card readers built in) just eject it BEFORE doing the install.

Windows will find the SD card fine after first boot after install.

It's possible of course that Windows RS has fixed installation problems - but I'd still set up like I've suggested.

    Cheers

Jimbo, what is the message about this...the dreaded "Can't install to this Disk / Partition" message.

Not sure I've ever seen that. Thanks.

    Hi,
    @Wynona and Starferret:

    3. Installed Build 14393.5 ISO, but when finished, I only had Build 14393.0!!! What I think happened is that since the cumulative updates were short and sweet, they weren't included in "install.esd"; thus, didn't make it into the ISO. Makes sense to me.
ISO version is version 14393.0 . The update to .5 came later on so weren't included in the .esd file used to create the .ISO
Hence, if you do a clean install using the ISO file you initially will see 14393.0 in winver. Later on WU will take it to version .5

Whether or not the "real" Anniversary version will incorporate the small (10 Mb?) update to version .5 remains to be seen when we'll actually get it tomorrow.

    Cheers,

I only know it used to affect tablets
If you had a Micro SD card in the tablet when you upgraded, it would get all confused and mess up the installation

You get that message if you try to install on a UEFI PC and you have booted from BIOS based media (or v.v I think but I'm not 100% sure about that). The answer is to boot from correct media.

    Just an FYI...

ever since Windows 7 you can have more than four operating systems on a HDD formatted under the older MBR system. The boot disk has to be on a Primary disk but the Operating systems do not, they can be on a logical disk on an extended partition I think the most I had was 6 of course these days I tend to use VMs but it was fun

This shows two working copies of Win7 Beta coexisting on a Logical partition

The system drive boots the active OS (Vista IIRC) the two Windows 7's and also the Linux partition that is not identified on the other primary partitions

The first thing I notice about the little animation from Microsoft in post 1 is that if you hold your pen badly, your handwriting is likely to suffer.

Mine suffers even if I hold it correctly - I won't tell you my nickname from my old Latin teacher

I think he does. But I'm not gonna tell him!

Dirt dumb easy to correct, though, even for un-techies. Grab a free copy of MiniTool and it will convert from MBR to GPT (or vice-versa) in seconds. I'm sure there are others, too, it's just the one I use.
