Well if you are not Deferring updates with that box checked off in the Advanced options or blocking updates by following one of the guides you should be seeing it arrive by way of the WU. When running a manual check you see it ready for download and installation if not already on prompting for a full restart with that already having been scheduled.
You will be waiting in line however due to location and still have to go by what the MS local release time is allowing for time zone differentials.
Hi,
True but how is that release going to be any different from current the Insider Preview? No one is running the actual General release form of the RS1 anniversary update at this time since the final version of that hasn't even been uploaded to the MS servers!
My bet is that the actual Anniversary release is going to be identical to IP version 14393.5 give or take a byte or two.
My big surprise was that WU updated the two installs that were not joined to the IP program. Normally if you do that WU will no longer update them except for Win Defender perhaps since to the servers you actually opted out.
Cheers,
The difference for the most between the RS1 update and the latest Insider builds besides those few minor changes if any being seen and build number would be just that "General Release" category as the major update. The video seen earlier by Engadget indicates Cortana has been modified to see a Voice Activated Assistant function the IPhonies and I think it needs Padding devices still lack! MS took a lead in that area it seems. This will be something that had been held back for the major update itself.
I downloaded home for friend using MCT and the file I got was simply "windows.iso", nothing else. No version, no nothin'. Wander which build it was ?
The RS1 builds have now been out for a month or so as you look over the checksums and other info. But they are all still in Insider form. This is what some are apparently confusing others by claims of already having the update itself. Another difference to note is that the Insider builds will expire in 90 days compared to the no expiration until 2026 timeframe for 10.
The MC Tool downloads the TH2 update regardless of edition and how many loose updates are wrapped in with it with the one file name "window.iso" which is changed here to reflect how many updates are included with a particular download. The download itself either 32bit or 64bit will generally wrap both Home and Pro editions together and then auto detect which will go on depending on the existing OS during an upgrade. At this point holding off a frew days should see the RS1 update instead however with version 1607 in ISO download while the MC Tool will typically limit the file name the way you see it. Custom naming may be required to avoid confusion like RS1 Dual Edition.iso with either x86 or x64 included in the file name.
