A friend has been trying to use the WU method to upgrade from 8.1 before the expiration date and instead keeps seeing 51 8.1 updates trying to redownload and reinstall themselves instead on his laptop. I told him to try the MC tool or download and mount the ISO image directly being the TH2 latest until the RS1 comes in on the 2nd of the month.

Mount and run setup.exe would be my recommendation also.

Or go to the MC tool page and click "upgrade now". Will be the quickest, if it works.

Dual Booting Win 10 and Win 7

A strange and worrisome thought just crept into this old brain. I have been a Windows Insider since day one and have downloaded and tested every build. I also run Windows 7 Ultimate as a dual boot option on a second SSD. I'm wondering if I every want to update the Windows 7 OS to Windows 10 consumer version will I be able to do this so the system will still run the retail version and the Windows Insider version.

I have checked around the 10 Forums and have not seen this questions asked before. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    EDIT:

I went ahead and installed Win 10 Version 1511 Build 10586.499 on the Windows 7 partition last night and all went well. The only interesting thing is my Dual Boot Startup with a 30 second delay is now using the Windows 7 routine with a black screen instead of the Windows 10 blue screen and squares start. Nor sure why? 7/26/2016

Shouldn't be an issue, two separate licenses. As far as I know anyway.

So the suggestion is to install the November commercial release of Win 10 Pro to the Win 7 drive and then revert back to Win 7 at the completion of the install?

Have any Insiders experienced any problems with Redstone? I'll be upgrading 25 or so computers at work along with my own at home. I haven't really read anything negative yet, but I've been busy so haven't had much of a chance to read as much as I wanted.

I'm running the Insider version of Windows 10 on one partition, WEK, and running the RTM version on another partition (upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro). Both are digitally entitled (or whatever's curent at the moment).

If I ever decide not to be an Insider any more, I'll just wipe the Insider partition (no need for both on the same machine).

Also, once a machine has had an activated Windows 10 installed, I'd assume you can have as many installs as you want. Technically speaking . . . not legally speaking, but you can only use one at a time on any given machine. :)

I think that would work. I've seen it suggested before. So, basically, you want to "ensure" your right to upgrade later than July 29?

My HP systems are both about as stable as you can get, Rob. For the moment, I'm on the 10586 RTM version and it's about as stable as you can get too.

You'd best hurry up if you're going to upgrade 25 of 'em.

Question . . . do they have Windows 7 or 8.1? Windows 7 may (or may not) give you problems, while Windows 8.1 usually upgrades without a whimper.
