Windows updated fine here, but I noticed Windows Defender is now running while I also have Avast installed? Normally when another Virus software was installed Defender would auto disable. Have Microsoft changed how this works now?
    I would turn Defender off.

    Thanks Topundcp.
I'll have a look at it. I see I have the software in my toolkit already....

    It will probably restart itself.
That said, I think it's quite good as an AV program.

    Cheers,

I notice that one ONE computer (not others) Norton is running and Windows Defender says it is not compatible with this version of Windows. All computers have same Norton Security that has been running all along. But on ONE computer, Defender has been turned on because Norton is not compatible. Go figure!!!! Microsoft, what's up?

Thank lord this is all over. Seem to of got through it relatively unscathed. Sympathise with those running into grief. Apart from some cosmetic changes I don't really see much improvement. I hope we don't get an update of this magnitude again anytime soon but I guess MS will be pumping these things out annually from now on?

I"am need direct link to download with download manager. Very slow internet speed.
If you goto the Media Creation Tool website, but not from a Windows computer (or if the website thinks you aren't), it offers you direct links to the ISO.

So for instance, in IE, if you go to the site, press F12 for developer mode, then in Emulation tab change User Agent String to 'Apple Safari (iPad)', it should offer you a way to get links to the ISOs, with links that work for 24 hours.

However the ISOs are bigger than the MCT versions which are more compressed.

The update went well for me, on my Dell inspiron 15- 5558. This computer is relatively new and preinstalled with windows 10. It took approx,.. 1 hour and 20 minutes from start to finish.

Only an amateur here, all my previous settings remained the same. After the restart, I had to re-enter the activation code for my Kaspersky antivirus. It appears to be a little easier on the eyes.

My desktop ( downstairs) does not see the update yet.

So far A-OK but I still need to explore around a little bit more.

One more thing, registry editor, is working again without crashing.

You're great Scottyboy. I really can't believe you can get so fraught about an update
Just regularly backup important stuff and always keep a copy of your last good build whether it be on DVD or USB.

The worst that can happen is that you spend a day reinstalling everything.

I had the same thing happen to me (NOD32 in my case) - Windows Defender icon in the tray, even though Windows Defender is turned off and its notification icon is also turned off. However, after the next reboot Windows Defender icon disappeared from the tray and everything went back to normal (or so it appears).
