Old Windows 10 Versions Will Expire Today, Stop Working in Two Weeks

    Posted: 15 Apr 2015

Microsoft launched the very first Windows 10 Technical Preview build in early October 2014, and since then, the company has updated it several times, launching not only new versions but also plenty of improvements supposed to provide us with a glimpse into the feature lineup of Windows 10.

In an announcement on the Insider Hub, Microsoft warns that old versions of Windows 10, including build 9841, 9860, and 9879, expire today, so all those who are still running these need to update to a newer version if they want to continue using the technical preview.
Microsoft says that, in two weeks, these builds will stop booting completely, so you still have until April 29 to update your computer to the very latest version of Windows 10.

Thanks, my VM has 10041, at present I've not been able to get 10049 to install. I've not bothered starting it up for a few days.

If you are on the fast ring it should install 10049. You might need to change to slow ring then try to download some updates that you might need to get things going. If it does pick some up when you try to dl on the slowring good. Change back to fast.Try again.

Thanks Charlie, I had changed to the Fast track before the last update when it went to 10041 but I'm going to put it back to Slow and see how things go then. :)

Joan, MS has said that they are not releasing 49 to the slow ring. You said it had been awhile since you had turned 10tp on so my thought was maybe you missed a critical update for 41 that was stopping win update to push 49 to you when you changed to fast ring. Just kinda a shot in the dark. Good luck to you. Charlie

I don't know, before trying again last week I'd downloaded and installed a number of updates. It's only been a few days since my last try but I've been a bit busy with other stuff to bother trying again.

We'll see what happens when I try again thanks for your reply Charlie. :)

Looks I'm also stuck with 10041 because of the slow ring. But I'm enjoying and bit satisfy. Will check with the new theme customization support in the new one, actually when it will work.
