Drivers for HP machines & Win10.
Some drivers failed for me AFTER they succeeded - huh???? The devices work, so I just chalked it up to Win10 being brain dead for now.
The display driver WU gave me was just screwy - glyphs in the properties dialog. Backed it off, only to have WU update it again. backed it off, turned off device install settings, installed only the display driver through Device Mgr.
After all of that (uninstall, install, WU, uninstall, rename folders, cCleaner, install driver only) things settled down.
In fact, WU gave me the correct AMD IDE and USB drivers
(or one of my attempts to get rid of CCC did ?????)
How is Win10 installed (VM, separate part, 2nd drive, or VHD)? I'm running Win10 in a VHD and on a separate part (different machines). A VM will virtualize the HW, so all bets are off for that type of install.
AS usual, if Windows screws up HW drivers - go to the source. You know my methods - start at a known base (HP downloads) and move up to newer drivers if issues occur (the OEM is the ONLY place I go - AMD, IDT (beats audio), Realtek, Synaptics, etc).
usasma, jcgriff2, writhziden, Laxer, and others maintain a great Driver Resource Table (should be the same information in both places):
Driver Reference Table AND Driver Reference Table (DRT)
The thing is with Win10 that Windows Update might try to 'update' the driver again
- you might want to turn of Driver installation in
