To make your own File Explorer icon, install GIMP and then Google iconify2_1.scm, download it and place it in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\scripts. Then either download a 256x256 pixel .png or create your own, and then choose ScriptFu>>Utils>>Iconify, then save as Name.ico. Done, you now have your icon.

    You're welcome Jeff.
The File Explorer icon is one of the few system icons you can change and NOT get a false positive in sfc /scannow, because the path was changed. Many other system icons will give you an false positive, that only the user can fix, and not Windows, because you have changed the shortcut-icon path

Instead of wasting time on this sort of stuff, why don't they fix the Control Panel/Settings mess?

    Hi there

Thanks for info - but I'd much rather a nice cleaner interface with file explorer - the old interface has been around that it seems old even to my Grandad !!.

I believe in the old Air Force they'd say it's been around since "Pontius was a Pilot (Pilate)". !!

I prefer this type of clean uncluttered interface (this is Dolphin --the KDE file explorer in Linux). Has many settings but I prefer basic list and to be able to split in groups. I know there are 3rd party ones available for Windows - but here I'm just talking about the "Basic" stuff included with the OS.

You can also have multi displays in a single window etc etc -- but YMMV - I prefer a single clean uncluttered display.

This Is the New File Explorer Icon That Could Launch in Windows 10 RS-snapshot8.png

There's also a built in file comparison and directory comparison (compare on names, dates, file size etc etc) - more useful than you might think - especially when moving / copying files between different HDD's etc.

For those wanting an "Icon making" program particularly @Cliff S and @BunnyJ

Last free version of icofx (works fine on W10) before it went (like a lot are doing these days) pay :

scroll down the list - it's about half way and select ICOFX.

Last Freeware version: DiskDigger, Amic Email Backup, Mystic Thumbs, IcoFX, phpDesigner, Xinorbis

    Excellent icon making program.

    Cheers

27 posts about one icon? Am I missing something? I looked at those pictures aimed to illustrate the differences between several iterations of icons and it was more effort to find them than I was willing to spare ...

Actually his proper latin name and the one that he would have been known by during his whole lifetime was Pontius Pilatus.

And arguing about what MS spends it's time on is kind of frivolous as they are likely to have a large team and an equally large budget.

    Hi there

I'm sure there's a well known adage : "Work expands into the available time to do it" (or similar). Never seems to work the OTHER way around thee if a project is getting behind schedule !!!.

Well it's weekend - and I suppose people have a lot of spare time and finding any excuse to avoid a drudge trip shopping / supermarket etc etc.

    Cheers
