Interesting question...now i am wondering if the version we downloaded (in my case yesterday) is really the new version that the article was talking about...Perhaps that was the old and very buggy version and the new one hasn't actually been released yet?

Especially in view of the fact that you had the last version all this time and you haven't seen an updated version come up in the store downloads lately...

My (old and buggy) version is 1.7.0.0.
Doesn't the store show the release date, like Google Play?

    Hi there

I might be a cynic but what actually does this do (or is meant to do) that the "Standard" version doesn't.

Also it doesn't seem to handle 4K UHD TV either --- BT Sports are now transmitting some stuff in 4K UHD format as well as I believe some NETFLIX and other streaming services.

    Cheers

Try to use the "Standard" version on Tablet with a small screen and without mouse/keyboard support...
However, after all the years there is still no decent media player app with touch support, like MxPlayer/BS Player/$imilar for Android, available.
    Shame.

    Hi there

Yes -- never thought of that - however I've watched sky sports (GB Premiership Football) on a mobile phone with the android version of VLC -- can't say though watching a long movie etc on a small screen is any sort of fun.

BTW I also use a touch type laptop (HP Envy) but I always take a wireless mouse -- don't really like touch or even worse a Touchpad - I really HATE those !!.

    Cheers

Actually, they do not...which is what makes it so hard to tell...I had removed my VLC app but i think that might have been the number, although i am not 100% sure...if i am right, that is the old buggy version that is still in the store....Perhaps one of those who just downloaded it within the last day or two could check the version against yours (that can be found under the settings section in the app i believe)...
    and let us know...

Interesting that the article from softpedia mentioning about it's impending release has disappeared from the softpedia website!
So, perhaps they haven't released the new version yet after all...

I thought it looked very nice, and would like to try it again, if it would just play all my video files like the standard version does without problems...

Also i noticed in the Music section, when i would try to "search" for a particular song in my collection, nothing would come up, so that was not working properly either....
Not to mention the frequent "crashes"

So, has anyone figured out if the current version shown in the windows store of VLC for Windows Store is actually the newer, updated version that we read about in this article?
