That's what I had to do on my wife's Acer. The hard drive is on the top side of the motherboard. That's why there was no access cover. I had to remove the keyboard and undo the ribbon cables for the trackpad etc. It's one of those slim designs. Just keep track of what screw comes out of what hole, in case they are different lengths.
My ASUS laptop is just the opposite, but it's a big monster with a 17.3 inch screen. It has the one access cover for the dual drive bays and RAM slots. Just 3 screws. It was a dozen or more for the Acer.
