    Windows 1.00 to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Build 14971.1000

That was found the first time by way of upgrade from BT folder while the next will be the upgrade to newer by way of a mounted ISO once the 342 is available. Definitely says "Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview or Windows 10 Technical Preview" and watermark shows 14332. I'm waiting for it to pickup the Windows Update 14342

EDIT: OK this a bit ambiguous. The "Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview or Windows 10 Technical Preview" option shows up whilst installing Windows 10. The watermark shows Build 14332.

The 332 Pro iso just downloaded here as well as what has been seen now onscreen since the 10240 was replaced by the 10565 and 10576 Insider builds has continued to be the Insider builds displayed onscreen as well as seeing }_Insider_Preview_Client_build #" in the file name itself. The TP naming was dropped before the July 29th launch last summer.I saw that last January when looking at some of the early past Alpha builds.

The name Technical Preview is by no means dropped, that simply is not true. How MS names their ISO files to make it easier for basic users to understand what they are is one thing, how the system handles the version names is a totally another thing.

An example: Using Windows System Image Manager to create an answer file, using a so called Windows 10 Insider Preview install.wim file to create the necessary catalog file, this is how the system sees the Windows version name ( see the highlighted part):

That is a sample answer file I created yesterday using the Windows 10 Pro 14342 install.wim file to create the catalog.

Saying that MS has totally dropped the name Technical Preview is simply not true.

The general reference is what I am talking about as to how 10 is seen by everyone. Not everyone will be using the image Manager which is managed by coding seen there.

And with the MC tool there everything is seen as "Windows.iso" regardless of which option you choose until custom naming those downloads yourself as far as the general releases go. But as a general rule of thought other then coding the watermark is how MS refers to the present builds at this not how the Image Manager sees them.

The MS ISO I'm referring to is the ISO downloaded directly from the MS site, 14332. Not the Media Creation tool.

My 14332 has now updated to 14342.

The snipping I took shows how the 332 arrived here without any renaming when downloaded directly. If you download an N edition for example that might explain why you would see it named differently due to location. I'm here in the US.

As for what Kari was pointing to there that tool was written back during the early builds and likely hasn't seen any newer version since. You could have retyped MS Pizza Delivery in that line of text without anything being noticed while MS renamed everything for the Windows Insider Program not the Windows Technical(with or without Preview) Program.

They weren't able to change text in the WSIM tool since that would have no bearing anyways since the tool will still work regardless of what you call the various builds. But leave it to MS not to keep things the same across the board having everyone running in circles!

Windows 10 (Pro and Insider Pro)

You are aware, that MS can decide to name some builds toward the release of Anniversary update "Technical Preview" again.

Sometimes it would be better not to say anything, than to say something revealing you don't know what you are talking about.

Although totally irrelevant, let's make this clear: the version name Technical Preview is not "text in the WSIM tool", it's not dropped or abandonded. It's how WSIM reads the version name from the install.wim file. The same for instance using Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer (ICD) when I mount the latest 14342 ISO and open its install.wim for editing, creating a customized install image:

"IP vs TP" is just an example of the standard MS "Rename &/or Relocate" design philosophy.

It's more of a series of Beta 1 type builds vs Beta 2 series. With older versions it was Alpha, Beta, Release Candidate, RTM. With 10 MS has been doing things a bit differently to an extent.

Windows 10 ‘Technical Preview’ rebranded as ‘Insider Preview’ as RTM nears

Written By Zac Bowden Apr 28th, 2015

This Wednesday, Microsoft will show off a brand new build of Windows 10 under a new preview name. No longer will they refer to the Windows 10 preview as ‘Technical Preview’ instead they will refer to it as ‘Insider Preview’. The most recent builds of Windows 10 are now branded as such, and rightly timed too as RTM is just a couple months away.
And the Insider name gets a face lift again this coming July.

The Insider Preview should be its new name for the foreseeable future, as said Insider program is set to continue all the way up and after Windows 10 RTMs later this year. Microsoft is planning to use the Insider Program to continue testing upcoming updates such as Redstone, which is set to arrive sometime in 2016.

The BUILD developer conference is tomorrow, and Microsoft is expected to talk more about its plans for the future, as well as show off more HoloLens, Windows 10 for phones, and Xbox stuff. Stay tuned at WinBeta as we’ll have coverage for you LIVE as it happens.
That 2015 report is seen at Windows 10 as RTM nears

The name change signifies going from early developers stages to previews of the finished general release type builds while still not being the full end user stages. As for still seeing the TP name when editing the install.wim file with the WICD or for the WSIM tool that is the label seen with an advanced user/developer not the general public.

It still is much like a parallel Three Ring Circus act when you look at how MS has everything set up. Canary Ring, Windows and Developer Group Ring, and Microsoft Ring are reserved access only while the Public sees the Fast Ring, Slow Ring, and Windows Insider Ring - Release Preview stages.
