I dislike the nagging and my customers do as well. When I see the GWX icon ask them about Windows 10 and if they don't want it and would like the notifications to stop I use GWX Control Panel to turn it off. I agree that it would be more polite if you could say No once and the nags would go away. That said are there documented cases of Windows 10 actually installing without user consent? What I sometimes see is people give in to the nagging and initiate the install, then discover they don't like it and want it rolled back. I have not seen an instance where 10 installed without user permission.
    Hi Victek
I was more concerned about people having a sneaky download that overrides that choice and re-engages the upgrade offer even after a clear choice has been made to not upgrade.

I really like Windpws10, I'm running it on all my home PC's. I also believe in free choice though. I am not happy with the tactics Microsoft is using to push Windows 10 to the masses. MVP or not, there are some things that Microsoft is doing that just doesn't sit well with me. They need to be more up front with what they are doing. Tell it like it is, give a true description of what an update does. Don't pawn it off as something its not. I'm not the only MVP that's fed up with this crap. Microsoft does this stuff and we get all the heat. Sorry/rant over. It just gets to me some times. Message to Microsoft, no means no!

    I never hated Microsoft before.

    I sure do now.

I don't hate them, but I'm very disenchanted with them lately. When I got my first MVP award years ago it was very special and something I was very proud about . Now so much these days though.

Ok.. I really don't think that MS did the best by doing this but it's not the end of the world. In another thread this practice will come to an end on 7/29 so this will not last much longer. And saying that switching to OSX is not a well thought out decision, IMO. To legally use it you need rather pricey hardware and there's the software support. It's not as large as you get with Windows. Factoring those two consideration I don't see Apple as a good alternative.

I will be so happy when the free upgrade offer ends and the GWX App disappears. That's still months away though, assuming it actually ends on the 29th. crosses fingers.

It still is. I feel it's just a method that MS is using to get users to move up to the latest OS for free. I understand that not everyone wants it but to be honest, it's really good and worth a try.

And honestly.. if I had that award I would wear it with pride.,

That's when the free upgrade ends so there's no reason for MS to push it anymore past that date.

That's the indication, it will be uninstalled after that date. There would be serious complaints after that date if you did the upgrade and then were asked for money to activate. I can't see them not killing it, unless, they extend the offer. I don't see them doing that though. If you haven't done the free upgrade by now, you never will.
