Six features coming to Windows 10 not available to Insiders, yet

    Posted: 24 Mar 2015

Microsoft is ramping up the speed at which Windows Insiders will receive new builds of Windows 10 but with the latest release, build 10041, there are still new features coming that are not present in this build. We know these features are coming as they were either announced by Microsoft or have shown up in builds at WinHEC, or were announced way back in January but have yet to materialize.

    • Spartan
    • Deeper Skype integration
    • Xbox Streaming
    • UI updates
    • Cortana
    • Windows Hello

These are only a handful of the enhancements Microsoft will likely include as it continues its push towards RTM. While there is still plenty of time to update other elements of the OS (like the icons), with Summer only a few short months away, the window of time for dramatic changes to the OS is quickly closing.

Nice to see MS is still pushing for a summer release of the RTM.

    Cortana

This is most important to me. Windows Phone 8.1 (Cortana) is significantly better than desktop version of build 10041.
    From the above article:

    Cortana
Microsoft's personal digital assistant will be updated in future builds of Windows 10 too. With a new UI and animations coming down the pipe (shown above), expect to see improved functionality too, like the ability to launch apps by saying their name.
Seeing that Microsoft has been consistently updating the features with Cortana on the phone, and the platform uses the same backend, it's safe to assume that the assistant will be updated frequently with new features during the preview period of the OS, and once Windows 10 is released this summer.

Just remember that Summer doesn't end until 22 September 2015

Didn't I hear somewhere, that MS wants the new Windows 10 PC's in the stores for the 'Back to School' rush?

If not, they won't see a lot of buying activity till Christmas.

    4. UI updates
    5. Cortana
    6. Windows Hello

    1. Isn't this IE Edge with another name ?
    2. I hope this doesn't mean Skype immersive mode only
    3. I don't use Xbox
    4. Interesting, hopefully this hybrid start mess gets better
    5. Will not be available in my Language anyway (I guess)
    6. What's this ? Something like Firefox Hello ?

There's still a lot of questions about IE and Spartan. My belief is that yes, sort of... Spartan is IE Edge without the backwards compatibility. While IE will have Edge, but also compatibility.

Since Apps are now windowed, the phrase "immersive" doesn't mean much anymore. I think they're referring more to Skype for Business.

Cortana will probably be available in most languages, though it might not initially ship with all languages (usually there's a core set, with more languages later).

Windows Hello is the new security "experience" with biometrics and what not.

They changed their mind again it seems. IE will not have Edge after next release (it does now) but will use Trident only.

Project Spartan will host our new engine exclusively. Internet Explorer 11 will remain fundamentally unchanged from Windows 8.1, continuing to host the legacy engine exclusively.

Yes, that's correct. At least for the Desktop.

    Nice to hear that.

Didn't know anything about this project. I know biometrics but Windows Hello, first time I heard.

    So, what I understand is:
Spartan=IE with Edge only. Also an IE will exist with the old engine.
Can I assume that will be two browsers available in Windows 10 ?
