I absolutely refuse, to test a new OS on anything but a fresh, clean, blank hard drive, just like it would be installed on a brand new computer. To this old tech, that's the only way to adequately and reliably TEST a new OS. It must be in the same environment as it would on a new computer just coming out of the box from the factory, or it's not a reliable test. I test on so many different PC's of various age and capabilities, that I must have each new OS on it's own bootable DVD. I still have DVD's going all the way back to Windows 98.

My new Dell came with W7 Pro 64-bit installed. I had 22 BSODs in six weeks because it came with bad memory.

You may start off clean but after a bit, it just isn't anymore. The only real test is on a dirty install.

That's precisely why I tell my customers "Never buy a Dell". Can you, or will you, tell us the brand name on the Bad Memory?

At least on the PC's where I test new OS's, all the hardware is in good shape so it should not skew the test.
I do have the expertise to determine if a fault is caused by software or hardware. Hardware problems, I can fix.

I don't work from the standpoint of a 'user', but from the standpoint of a Computer Builder/Technician, of over 30 years.

On the old Windows 8 forum, where I was a moderator for a while, we constantly cautioned people to NOT install the Beta Test version of Windows 8, over the top of their main OS. But contrary to our and MS's cautions, people did it anyway and the results were usually disastrous.
All our instructions to do only a CLEAN install, went mostly unheeded. Most of the members and many of the moderators left that forum in total disgust. We staff members tried very hard to get people to do the testing in a proper manner, but when it appeared that we were just shouting in the wind, most of us just Gave Up. That forum is all but dead today.

I had to get the ISO's of both the 32 bit versions and the 64 bit versions of Windows 10, because I install it on so many different PC's. Going the Upgrade route, was never even an option. I'm surprised that MS even suggested it!

Pardon me for butting in, but I couldn't help but "eavesdrop" on this thread -

I've *always* done clean installs....never "upgrades", beginning with Windows 95 OSR2 in 1997.

Windows 10 x64 builds 9926 & 10041 were both clean installs. Both have been quite satisfactory.

sfc worked for me after that (tip taken from here... How to repair your system files using Dism and Sfc in build 10041 - Windows 10 Forums )

I had problems with both my computers on which I have Windows 10 build 10041 installed with respect to running sfc /scannow. I did run the command you indicated and it did correct my problems on both computers. Now I can run the sfc / scannow command and it completes on both systems without error. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

I have no idea what brand it was or even what's in there right now. Strange, IIRC, I ordered it with 4GB but it has 8GB. Don't know if my memory is/was bad as well!
