    Hi Slartybart,

Thank you and great job !

I have a particular interest in one of the commands you're describing :
    rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\system32\van.dll, RunVAN

This command works well on Window 8/8.1 but I've not been able to have it work on windows 10. Do you have any idea ?

    Thx :)

Windows doesn't change that much ... the way we use it does. Most of the programs and cmdlets will still be there, you just have to DIY. Microsoft, as a business has to move forward ... they have to do the same thing car companies do - change the covering.

The drive train is pretty much the same.

Here's a treat: unzip the folder, unblock it and have fun with the pseudo Control Panel. I have more shortcuts to build, but this is as far as I went (shiny things distract me and the 12 logs in the fire are burning bright)

You should be able to launch them in a Run command ... if not open a PS or Cmd prompt and launch from that shell.

In addition, the Settings app is more touch friendly.
Agree with you there I love the settings app better than Control Panel.

I haven't come to grips with the layout of settings. I'm still stumbling around trying to find things. Eventually it will be as easy as using the Control Panel was, but I'm not there yet.

PC Settings $ucks...I can understand it if you're using touch but other than that...yuck..

BTW, the old control panel hack still works if you like to see everything broken out into categories
    and explanations for fast access...

Make desktop shortcut and name it Master Control Panel...
Then put this in the target box...

    "C:\Master Control Panel.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}"

One thing (not the only) I do not like about settings is every change you make is live, applied immediately. I would much prefer all Setting sto require a Save or Submit button to make them active.

    Agreed.

I hate those type of dialogue windows (without OK, Apply and Cancel).
Ubuntu 10 had them (GNOME 2) and LM17.2 MATE has a few of them too.

This is a very bad idea and there is no reason to eliminate the classic Control Panel. Other companies also remove or change features that have been working well for years if not decades. If Microsoft does go down this path I'm leaving the Insider Track.

I've found a mixture . . . one is for my dual monitors. When I change the default monitor (for instance), until I "Apply", nothing happens. The first time this happened, I was thrown for a loop because most of the changes are live, as you say, Trucker.

I've seen others that require me to "Save" but can't remember which ones offhand.

There needs to be a uniform process; either Save, Apply, etc. or live. I'd even go for the old, "Are you sure you want to do that?". :)
