Its for older version of Windows 10. If you have Windows 1511 then you get KB3147458.

    KB3147461 In an update loop

That would be me, I just cannot get this update to work despite several attempts to get it to update. Running a custom sytem on AMD Phenom II, Gigabyte MB, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro that was installed via ISO "not" online upgrade.

What happens is my system downloads the update, I install it and reboot, it goes to 100% completion, then immediately a message appears that the update could not be completed, system will now revert changes and the process happens over and over again every time I reboot my system. I have never had any other issues until this update.

    What I've done so far:
    • Ran MSCONFIG, disgnostic startup with only basic services used (No Anti-virus, etc, etc.), then updated
    • Stopped update service ( net stop wuauserv, net stop bits > Delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution files and folders. Tried reinstalling update
    • Ran sfc /scannow
    • Ran Fix WU tool (freeware)
    • Tried to install the WU standalone tool but that errored on a "Could not complete due to incorrect system" or something like that..
    • As I am writing this, I am trying another WU standalone file (1st one may have been incorrect) from a link on this forum ( Windows 10 Build 10240 - Cumulative Update KB3147461 - Windows 10 Forums ) - - I'll post back after it downloads to see if this one worked.

    * EDIT* - The standalone WU file for KB3147461 did not work for me, same results as described.

I am at wits end on what to do next, any help is appreciated.

What OS build do you have. This is for Build 10240 only.

Go to Settings - System - About.

    Interesting....
My system doesn't state an OS Build, however, the Microsoft KB and System Build Update shown in second pic is what is not updating at all. Looks my update is to update to the build you have shown on your system. (My system is "Activated" by-the-way).

Install the November update in your system as it brings wide number of new features.
Your OS build would be 10240 and the current stable one is 10586.

    Dear Clusterhead:
How did you determine that this update relates to Current Business Branch/Build 10240? I took a look at the KB article for this update and it doesn't mention a build number. I'm curious to know how MS releases that information (or if in fact it does). I assume WU knows what version is running, so also knows what updates are applicable. I'm trying to determine how a business user might keep up with this kind of information, short of running Windows Update (or some plausible alternative like Windows Update for Business, Windows Update Server, and so forth). Thanks for any additional light you might shed on this subject!

    Alles Gute!

OK, I'll look into that, however, I have always updated my system. This is the 1st update that is not working for me and I would assume since you really don't have a choice on the updates at the Home/Pro level of Win 10, I would have the November update already installed.

*EDIT* - I checked Windows Update History, but it only shows the last 5 attempts of the aforementioned update stating that it has failed. Is there another way to check for this November update?

OK, I found a history of my updates dating back to August 2015, supposedly build 10240 was released in July 2015 as KB 3074663 as far as I can tell. The 2 KB's I highlighted were to update Build 10240 so I believe that I have / or had that build at one point. So where to next? Thanks
