I had the flashing desktop in safe mode myself - made it almost impossible to regain control. After several tries I was able to click on the Avast removal tool - put whatever you think you need on the desktop in normal mode!!

There must be a way to get this to work - maybe in selective mode looking for video drivers? Spend an hour or two rebooting the machne??

I have Firefox set as my default browser, Cliff. As far as I know, it should always open everything, but it's not working right.

I can come into TenForums without issue. I can open links from some emails without issue, but others will give me that window. There are too many of them to be forced to set associations for each and every link I follow.

Since there don't seem to be any others having this problem, it may be unique to my system?
Of course you are not alone in this. Your friends are always here for you :)

Happens to me too. Some emails (Tenforums etc.) are following the rules, and others don't. For me it was an offer from Amazon.

So what do we do about it, Andre? Hmmm, maybe I should take another look at Cliff's post . . . He may be onto something I didn't understand. Not unusual for moi!

I don't know for you, but it's not really big problem for me, since most messages are processed correctly. Simple analyze of received problematic message would probably do to identify what is going wrong. But will also check what Cliff is onto.

    Edit:
Have to ask: is your problematic mail also from Amazon?

    Edit 2
For me, only latest post from Amazon are problematic (last few days). And Wynona, why wasn't you able to capture the screen with snip?

Early this morning, within minutes of each other my three UK English 14295 x64 Pros found and started downloading 14316. I've never had this long delay.

Interesting how it went. I know this is trivial information for most users but it really interests me
    • Got 14316 Education and Enterprise (both EN-UK) upgrades minutes after they were released on Wednesday, as well as 14316 Pro x64 EN-US on all real and virtual machines
    • Got 14316 Pro 32 bit EN-UK on Thursday morning
    • Got 14316 Pro 64 bit EN-UK on three machines simultaneously this Sunday morning, download starting in one real and two Hyper-V virtual machines within minutes of each other
It is really interesting that so many persons received builds all at once after such a delay, at least to me.

FF is set as default for all but ftp. Didn't change anything from previous version.
I'm almost sure, that Wynona has the same options checked :)

I may have stumbled upon a way to keep that "How do you want to open this" pop up from appearing over and over again.
I've set it up and have been keeping a close eye on it, here's what you can try:
Set all your defaults in Control Panel, check them in Settings but confirm them in Control Panel; program and app defaults, file associations/protocols, same with link types.
I suspect it would help if you have less programs of the same protocol type installed, nevertheless, don't change anything after that!
Two things that will ruin it would be right clicking something and choosing "Open with", and, of course, installing a new program with similar protocols.
