Apps I don't use neither. Only the calculator and the agenda sometimes. Everything I use is pinned on the taskbar. I rarely go to the startmenu only to shut down the laptop. And I use the rightclick option of W10 startmenu in ClassicShell. I set it to menu so everythings opens up immediatly when you hover with the pointer above it.
Very similar to my setup, just pity that tiles for desktop programs can't fill whole tile like APPs do.
Is that the Start 8 app by chance? since 8 and 8.1 natively only see the full tablet form of Start screen. From a look at a previously post you will see how I was initially trying to reduce the volume of the time section to no avail simply since I will never have any use on a desktop for a large number of large tiles spread all over the screen and what initially drove people away from the 8 flop that flipped with 8.1 as far as the Metro screen no longer being a mandate at start up time.
MS had to do some serious rethinking however after the repeat mistakes of the past of replacing a flop too fast with another(ME with XP flopping around for years without fixes being rushed out in a hurry like 8.1 replacing 8!). The free upgrade offer wasn't so much reaching any one billion devices goal but to get as many as possible running the more or less pre actual RTM explaining the bugs with the TH2 for example in order to gather up what would turn out to be the best selling points to work on as the feedback kept coming in. In a few weeks from now you will be seeing the cumulative results of their endeavor.

Since pinning becomes very limited as only so many "small" items can be displayed when pinned without the hidden from view arrow coming up the Additional Quick Launch tool bars are made up here for varying categories for things like the Control Panel shortcut, Disk Management, Elevated Command prompt, etc. now being seen added into the right click on Start button context menu.
The Search previously seen in plain view on the old Classic Start is simply another right click option as well as the Run command line with a portion of the Control Panel shifted to the Start menu. So statements about never using the Start menu will prove to be inaccurate at this point. MS is considering phasing out the CP entirely for the touchscreen gui form of adding everything into touch capable Start menu options! And Started off on VF as well. Thought you looked familiar!
Here I have to look at functionality while you are looking more at LARGER and IMPRESSIVE tiles to click on. Why bother having any wallpaper when you can decorate by tiles? Bet I can populate the screen with far more pinned and other shortcuts then you can see tiles even resized to small!
Here's a dual screen concept of Plain and Simple but far more functional without the thrill rides. Full access on both screens could be seen but not wanting to mirror task bar from display to display but incorporate other options.
First off I like wallpaper over small links on my desktop.. that's why. And I find it much easier and faster to go to the start menu to fine the apps I use than to minimize my current task to get to the desktop.Here I have to look at functionality while you are looking more at LARGER and IMPRESSIVE tiles to click on. I use my Windows 10 Start Menu full screen. I like how it looks and how it functions.
