Bourne Again Shell (adapted from the Unix Bourne Shell). So many different command processors they have ...lol.
I dunno if I'd criticize the xNix model though. Just curious BunnyJ, what is it that you don't like about it? I will admit that its windowing system is lacklustre from a performance point of view (though again it was designed to be used with graphic terminals). But the innards of the OS are very flexible and portable to lots of different platforms.
Just curious. I do like the Windows model as is though. I really don't experience day to day problems with it to be honest.
Microsoft knows a lot of servers are Linux so I suppose they are offering support to manage those servers from a Windows desktop rather than the users install a Linux desktop and find out they like it and no longer need a Windows Desktop. That is my thoughts. Part of the Embrace, Extend and Extinguish. This being the Embrace part.

I thought the partnership is mainly for developers
Microsoft and Canonical partner to bring Ubuntu to Windows 10 | ZDNet
That would be neat to run xfce desktop on windows 10. Does this also mean you could run wine on 64 bit Window 10 and run windows 16 bit programs?Could you run a Linux desktop such as Unity, GNOME, or KDE on it? Probably, but that's not the purpose of this partnership.
I am somewhat familiar with the GPL, wouldn't this partnership violate the GPL?
Hi there
Rather than mess around with this (Windows actually does have some sort od scripting language although not too many use it) I'd suggest to Ms if you really want to copy some features from Linux - why not start with CRONTAB - this is a system which can start jobs at various times and issue / send notifications where necessary by email or even by Phone messaging.
There are all sorts of 3rd party Windows job schedulers but something built in to the OS like Linux CRONTAB would be brilliant -- set your backups etc to run at specific times without having to do this individually in the application, update Multi-media libraries etc etc.
Even Batch deliver email - gives you a break from incessant emails arriving randomly during the day (and night).
Cheers

Hi Jimbo45
(not to derail the thread, but I was just curious as you seem to be very technically capable :)) why do you dislike tabbed browsing? I only ask, because it's so darned convenient to me, that I'm surprised to see someone dislike it.
One final thing from me on this.. if anyone really wants bash in Windows, there is a great third party tool to provide this.
