No new Insider Build after Build. I've just gone back to 1511 and set Insider Ring to Release Preview. Build 14295 broke Virtualbox anyway

I would have to nuke everything on the main presently or simply wait for the next Insider Preview build to come along in order to see one minor bug cleaned up. Wouldn't be the down time inconvenience versus the minor sound issue annoyance. When the TH2 got buggy after a few no longer allowing new folders to be named or renaming existing ones and not one solution found anywhere MS Answers, TechNet, MSDN I simply put the TH2 on the Fast ring to get that one solved!
The TH2 as well as the Insider builds are still a work in progress as far as 10 goes. And the Redstone 1 being the TH3 equivalent won't around until July's first anniversary update there. A clean install of the Threshold 2 now would be buggy in late May anyways if not mid June. Unlike the way 7 been the "right out of the box OS" 10 is not only three versions newer but a dual platform OS replacing the single platform 7 enjoyed there. You have to expect getting 10 in 100% prime as 7 was shape is still going to need some work while 10 looks so much better then "8mares"!

I agree Windows 7sp1 was /is more reliable and consistent all along ......TBH I kinda miss that bank vault dependability you never know what's going to happen on any Windows 10 th2 or rs1 PC every time you boot it ,update it or while you use it .........
I never liked the 8's
Hi,
I noticed the exact same thing since a previous build already. It seems the install.esd gets deleted after Windows has finished installing.
Which is rather a nuisance as it's about the only file in that folder you may want to keep.
So, this time I copied the entire installation folder over to another partition just to see if it would happen again before it started installing. And it did. After it finished installing and a reboot it was gone from the C:\ partition.
That said, my C:| partition isn't a very large one so that may have something to do with it, just speculating though.
Just for fun and since you guys do it too, I had Nlite (free) make me an ISO file from the copied folder on the other partition and that went flawlessly.
Cheers,
A couple of reasons (haven't tried either one) I've noticed is that if you remove Windows.old (doesn't sound logical) or if you do a "cleanup", Install.esd is no longer there.
Another thing . . . Once in the Sources folder, you have to scroll way, way, way down until you get to Install.esd. Things are in alphabetical order and there's a very long list of things.
Did you do a "cleanup" after installation, or remove "windows.old"? I've seen folks say that one or the other will delete the install.esd file. So far (I just checked), mine remains intact.
I'm pretty sure that if you start to copy and there's not enough space, Windows will inform you. And I won't argue the point that install.esd disappears, since I've seen others say the same thing.
I'm not sure I follow what you did here. I'm not familiar with Nlite and the statement "make me an ISO file from the copied folder" just doesn't computer with me. When I create an ISO of a build, the only file I use is install.esd.
You can always copy your install.esd file to another location. When MS update downloads a new Insider Build, I always wait until it says Preparing to Install. Then I copy it, and make an ISO out of it using a decrypter even though this install.esd is already decrypted. Then I restart, mount the ISO, and click on the setup file to start my upgrade.
