So far I don't have a red x on my computer. This is a standard upgrade install. I just finished upgrading about two hours ago so I haven' really had chance to put it to the test yet. :)
Same here, Lee. No red X anywhere to be seen. Not to say that others don't have it . . . or to say they've done something wrong. Not all systems can be so perfect as mine. Just kidding, of course. I had my share of problems with Build 14291, but so far, Build 14295 seems to be better overall.

My thought is that if I'd done something wrong in Build 14291, then I'd have the same things wrong with Build 14295 because I didn't do a thing different with this build.

Haven't seen any red Xs here for some time. Have seen the network cable unplugged however mostly with the 7 side of the equation however while any bugs with 10 so far haven't been network adapter types.

I would recommend for the time being keeping track of just what sees them appear even if you are still connected. A bug in some software may be what you later find as being the actual cause. Often some program's auto updater could be at fault since it puts on it's own network files. Slight resource conflict?

Yep, a hard shut down & new start always cleans it up, so PendingFileRename's can complete, and the OS loads as it should.

This is for less advanced users not you Night Hawk:)
Right .....I thought it was an update ,indexing, housekeeping thing hanging up and expected the hard shut down, cold boot would fix it like it did after leaving it unattended and seeing it never shut down .

I 've seen that all before on earlier windows and maybe Windows 10 before but outside of W10 here with different graphics ofc.

I deliberately skipped the crazy 8's here but just configured and repaired some of that for friends and family. and stayed on 7 x64 until windows 10

Cliff S - after second boot, the red X disappeared from my internet connection.
I have a red X on my unused ethernet connection in CP > network connections and I may have deliberately disabled it awhile back anyway .

Have you tried running it with elevated permission seen by opening the Command prompt(admin) option or just with the other command prompt? One MS answers topic refers to the problems a few people have been running into where the tool won't run you may want to review. System File Checker wont run in normal or safe mode - Microsoft Community

That was the only thing I came up with as far as the tool itself having problems. One suggestion by a mod there was to see Windows reinstalled fresh to clean up a likely problematic install where something didn't go on fully.

One way to tell if a particular connection or filter is a problem is to try disabling and then re-enabling for a refresh while something disabled can be enabled to see if the refresh clears it up. Between VMware and the Team Viewer program used on VMs as well as the physical 10 and 7 installs was just that. If there was a problem the item would be disabled and turned back on.

Another method is to run the ipconfig at the command prompt. You type in "ipconfig /all" to get a full view of all connections. There may a log file pointing something out as well. Since MS rearranged their help section a bit lately one of their support pages got moved to Fix network connection issues - Windows Help

I couldn't recall where did I see in 10 forums that provided the solution which resolve this issue on last build, but it did work! Anyone can refresh that!

You likely need to find a particular thread you may have already posted on to see if you can find it again or use the advanced search option 10F offers. If you remember someone's user name like the OP that would also be a big help in that.

Since 10 is still the new kid on the block with a good number of bugs to be worked out you might actually find a few where this was being mentioned. Upgrade installs from the previous versions especially when first not actually seeing the previous version have a clean install can actually increase the likelihood of the same or similar problems being run into.

As I can add in here those will tend to carry clutter over from the previous version's registry as well as any disk errors and corrupted program files even other then the Windows files themselves. The personal preference for many when a new build if not newer version arrives has always been to wipe a drive clean and see the clean install first until MS pulled a need to upgrade first act with 10.

waltc provided a script for it here: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14291 for PC and Mobile

DarkNetz posted same type of solution in an earlier thread but you will probably find the script more convenient.

Can anyone confirm that this script works for build 14295 too?
