Gee while still not getting to one of the 10 Pro VMs(the one that saw the TH2 iso that is) I went for broke on the main build's primary and saw these results.

As you can see it was already downloaded and ready and lately on 7, 8, 8.1 systems 10 has been found already in the upgrade install process without any user interaction it seems! Besides that the comment I made earlier about this release being mostly about the Edge addons is what a blogger has been reporting as well.

The whole release is dedicated to the Edge browser improvements.
In Windows 10 build 14291, Edge got a lot of updates and new features. Microsoft claims the following changes:

And then one more thing to add here as far as a slight change in appearance! since this is on the main build's primary drive.

Had to clean things up again in order to work on an upgrade from 7 to 10 video since the VM's watermark would intersect with the main's not having borders like any explorer windows see.

An annoyance. Every other boot the network icon apperas with an red x. However network is actually still available. Anybody else see this?
Another annoyance. Windows.old directory cannot be deleted using disk cleanup (system files), unlocker (still there after reboot) removing read only attribut recursively. Any solution to this?

Obviously Edge extenstions are cumbersome at best. The extention folders are in my downloads folder. Apparently I could move them in some cumbersome manner but it sure isn't worth it. A very long way to go Micorsoft. Edge removed from my taskbar.

No reason to install this this flawed upgrade but no reason to bother reverting to an earlier image either. Still waiting for some substantial Redstone build.

From the Known problems for PC list in the announcement: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14291 for PC and Mobile | Windows Experience Blog

If you use Hyper-V and have a Virtual Switch configured for your network adapter, you may see an error indicator (red-colored “X”) for your network adapter in the notification area of your taskbar. The error indicator is incorrect and your network adapter should continue to work just fine.

I think I figured out my problem.

I did a clean install of one of the insider preview releases, don't remember which one, but I think I also deleted then created a new Windows 10 Pro X64 Oracle VM to do the clean install to. Hardware emulation was the same and the computer name is the same but I don't think activation liked it for some reason and I didn't notice it then.

Now, looking at the devices registered to my MS account, I see a Oracle VM for 14257 and now 14291.

I did a rollback to the previous Win 10 which ended up as 14279 and I don't see that one registered to my MS Account.

Any idea how I can recover from this or do I have to install a qualifying Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 first then upgrade to the latest insider preview?

I don't use Hyper V and I don't have a Virtual Switch but I have the erroneous red x over the Wi Fi Icon in the Task Bar. Wi Fi works fine otherwise.

Yeah same here. I've just turned off the network notification. It wasn't much good for anything anyway. 14291 is a snooze but buildfeed is up to 14295 and I expect when 14300 is built it will be released to Fast Ring. Just a guess of course.

I removed my ethernet cable before clean installing Build 14291. The installation went well and quickly, and everything was fine the rest of the day and evening. But this morning, I had nothing but trouble; even TenForums timed out. I replaced the ethernet cable and all is well again.

I haven't bothered trying the extensions since Edge doesn't show web pages as it should; it cuts enough off the top off my PDF files that the title's pretty much unreadable. And that's not gonna work for me.

I'm beginning to think the same thing, but I'll hang on as long as I can and hope for a new Build sooner than later.

    Finally gave up.
Installed Win 7 Pro X64 in my Windows 10 X64 VM and activated it.
Now installing Win 10 IP X64 from mounted ISO.
    Should activate okay once done.
