All this this Snip business could be a borked upgrade install sure ......... I thought about a clean install but a new build with the fix might happen too soon for all that and I have that small electronic HDMI switch I'm not using which can connect/disconnect the TV anyway and I can get plenty of video out the Android TV ,Dish TV , Roku and Kodi in here anyway !

I did clean install from an ESD download leak once and a fixed new build (same one ) came in the next day but the leak was fine

Nope, no faulty upgrade here. This is a clean install. I'd guess that Edwin also has a clean install, but not sure.

BTW, guys, you're not going to convince me that I need to buy a riser for my monitors when I can build one exactly the way I want it for far less money.

Not everyone reporting this problem has seen a clean install and for each new build those on VM as well as the two desktops have gone on smoothly without bugs by way of the WU. Something didn't go on fully to be running into programs with the Windows Accessories. And at times even clean installs can have a bad moment! Sometimes a flash drive simply needs to be redone or won't read fully during the live install like it normally should have been. Then you have the quality of the flash drive in use as another possible factor.

Here I was looking for something that would take some of the heat from not only the two monitors despite being lcd not led but the high intensity desk lamp I had to place right in between. That has the adjustable knob trimmer on/off type switch and uses the J type bulb which can get quite warm at times! Plus I didn't want essentially turned upside down wooden boxes on the desktop.

The other stands available however are dual monitor taller stands that eliminate the short stubby base stands typically seen now with most models. Those are the pricier ones that also see the height adjustment as an option not seen with the basic stands.

FWIW I never use Flash drives for Win OS all the PC here have ODD' s so maybe I'm lucky or behind the times in that respect .

I either mount an ISO or burn a DVD & check maybe check the hashtags like I would with a web DL as long as they have them for now or at least the file size then roll it in either way clean or update if I'm not using WU or Windows OLD and rolling back .

Some of those CCFL LCD can get pretty warm with a high back light level or prolonged use same for CCFL LCD TV's watts make heat.
albeit some of those CCFL displays might have better ventilation and thermal designs.

OTOH my 55" 2015 4K HDR LED /LCD Sony TV makes a fairly good radiant heater in here when its doing it's ~ 285 watt action on HDR or something below that on SDR and the bottom facing vents are more than toasty warm but Sony is good at thermal design and using quality board level parts and most of their TV's can go 24/7 without any issues.

I'm on my fourth Sony since 1994 and I never broke any of them and they usually had a lot of use including this one in the 4 mo I've owned it ,it;s usually always on when I'm on the PC and when I'm Not but I have a 4 or 5 year SQ.T warranty on it and by then I'll maybe be watching something new from Sony anyway or if Sony tanks it
(unlikely now ) maybe Samsung or LG .

OTOH this one has almost every conceivable format we are likely to see for maybe 10 yrs or beyond that outside of DV and Sony can probably flash it for that anyway like they are doing soon with Marshmallow 6.X and I can diag and fix it outside of a new panel if I can get a board ,cable or discrete part or ASIC part I need or send the board out.

Never seen a clean install by mounting an iso while a repair install or examination if not extracting files would have been a reason. Initially for 10 I burned several dvd-rs back when the MC tool allowed for single iso downloads of one edition in each 32/64bit flavor. Afterwards a few Insider builds still saw individual edition ISOs while fast forwarding to the TH2 update and after you have the choice of the 4 in 1 some of us were looking for last fall as well as the dual edition iso in each flavor.

The method here however has been to watch the progress being seen by way of the WU since this how all newer releases will be coming with the exception of external media. The tough part now is keeping each build on long enough to see if any and what bugs come up. The TH2 was simply left intact with the Insider builds option off on the main as well as at least one of the VMs until the main acted up. Some research into no solutions found for the file and folder renaming problem lead to allowing the next newer build to replace the TH2 having skipped over two or three other builds until mid february when that upgrade by WU solved the problem.

As for removable media over the years many blanks made for good frisbee contests while a few flaky flash drives were simply passed along or tossed while others were found to be as reliable as anything else. But even then it isn't always the media at fault but a bad burn to disk or bad write to drive.

I've never done a clean install mounting an ISO .........only from a DVD in W10 so I'm the wrong person to ask about that but I've done update installs from mounting an ISO and it offered me the choice.

I do not know however that for a fact it would execute a clean install by mounting an ISO . My guess is No on the same NTFS primary partition but I may have 50% odds there because I don't really know .

I made my last update install ISO file that I Installed as a mounted ISO with 14279 from the $WINDOWS ~BT folder >Sources> ESD file copy I made before the WU re start install which as it happened would not execute beyond checking for WU 's anyway so I said P on it and mounted the ISO and by passed the check for updates .

Note I use IMGBurn for the DVD's and 16 X media at 16X or 8X burn and usually only Verbatim-r or Sony +r single layer DVD.
I never usually get many coasters with those and my DVD rips go to spinning metal 1:1 ISO files but TBH I like the Verbatim -R better not as many coasters.

I've also had a few bad DVD burns and writes to the hdd in earlier test builds B4 WU installs here also once I had to D/L Win 10 4 times to get a good disk and it wasn't lack of bandwidth .

On the other thing in the AV business .................lets agree to disagree we both may be biased to opposite positions
even though I'm right most of the time

With past versions nothing lately that would entail a custom install while booted into the present copy of Windows in order to install another version or edition to another partition or drive rather then simply upgrading the copy of Windows you were in. A guide on dual booting two versions like the one for setting up a dual boot of 10 with one of the previous versions would be what to go by for any of that at this time however.

As for the optical side I have to use a dvd in order to upgrade the old 7 laptop to 10 which ended up seeing a few clean installs to follow! That was for the July 29th launch with the 10240 build however. Before I could get the TH2 in December however the laptop's drive I can verify as well as the laptop not seeing anything displayed with the replacement in wasn't too reassuring the laptop was still any good and will need to sent to a shop for repair.

A new 10 laptop was then purchased also likely seeing the 10240 as well since the new model came out in September. Have to wait not for TH3 and the warranty to run out before doing much with that however.

Funny, I'm still on 14279 and nothing showing in updates, the last couple of new builds were within a day of the announcement.

Have you checked to see if you're still on the Fast Ring? You can get bumped off it if you've done a clean install. Just a guess.
