A bit on a pricey side though.

I'd need to take a loan out to purchase one!

I don't think it's necessary, once you get from HDD to SSD, even slowest one seems lightning fast.

I agree. Performance wise, SSD's are good enough for me.

I decided to go for price - size instead for speed for the next SSD.

I remember paying $265 for my first 60GB OCZ SSD. That was in 2008. And look where prices are now. A 500GB SSD can be had for $180 and a 60GB SSD is cheaper than a decent USB3 stick.

According to some reports production prices should fall by approximately 50% this year.

And sizes should be going up soon, as well. I read recently that Intel is predicting 10TB SSDs in two years.

Just like with HDDs, once upon a time I thought my 20MB on the Atari was enormous and rocket fast. When SCSI came out my 486 went a-flying. My first IDE was 250MB, enormous !

So far this year I have replaced all HDDs in my main computer with SSDs. I now have two Kingston 480 gig SSDs , and truly enjoy the difference in speed. As WHS I bought my first SSD back in 2009, an Intel M 25 80 gig and it is still going strong as my main drive for my iMac 27 " OS X drive.
