A Third-Party Start Menu in Windows 10: Why It Doesn't Make Sense...

Windows 10 will finally bring back the Start menu, after approximately three years of struggle and criticism coming from users who couldn't figure out an easy way to work on their computers without such a feature.

However, Microsoft decided that, together with the operating system as a whole, the Start menu also needs to be revamped, so the version we'll get in Windows 10 will come with live tiles, new options, a different design, and features that make it look fresh.

And yet, third-party developers have already started work on their own Start menu apps, trying to offer an alternative to those who don't like the new version in Windows 10.

Living proof is Start10, a Start menu app created by Stardock and which brings options such as the Windows 7 design, transparency, and a skinable Start button.

No Thanks. . .will stick with the new; I really am enjoying playing around with it though there are a few thing I like to see such as a pic in the start screen mode. The solid color is just boring. . .

I've avoided installing Start8 or Classic Shell for testing purposes but when I do eventually move to Windows 10 I will use one of them. I don't like the hybrid start menu at all.

I agree, if Windows 10 stays as it is now, I most likely will use a 3rd party (Start8 is my choice). It has always worked flawlessly for me.

I don't understand why you directed this to me? Your post was precise and your opinion was stated clearly. If you are bored with Window 7 then fine, use 10's interface.

I personally find Windows 7 interface, easier and more informative to use. I like being able to right click a program and see it's properties which is not available in 10. I personally find Windows 10, less informative and a downgrade from previous versions. For being able to use Modern apps in conjunction with Legacy programs, I believe Windows 8/8.1 with Start8's (window 7 menu) is a better balanced approach for me.

Quite agree - no point in changing just for change - if it doesn't do what you want then, no matter what others might feel, then it's not for you.

Personally, I used to hate Windows 8 & it's only now that I've used a trial version with Start8 that it comes into it's own. I even think that it's better than Windows 10 - just my humble onion, but I don't love it that much over Windows 7 to fork out 100 to but it!!
