Always had Electricity. I do remember having only outhouses, pitcher pumps and cooking with a kerosene cook stove. I also remember when our phone was a party line and TV only had 3 channels and went off the air at 11:30PM.

I had to live with the outhouse until I was a teenager. Not that we did not have indoor plumbing, but it was not attached to anything. During the war they did not bother with infrastructure. The pipes were only put into the streets in the 50s. We did not really feel like anything was missing.

I would hate to go to an outhouse in a snowstorm. That would be cold.

They still have outhouse at construction sites & at some events but its not the wooden type. U.K. have automated outhouses, I would be worried about getting stick in there during the cleaning cycle. I think there is a sample on youtube of the automated toilet.

Today's porta potty with the holding tank and chemicals to sanitize are slightly better than the old wooden shed over a hole in the ground.

Give me a company in my area that has reliable $9.25 broadband and I'll drop my $60 broadband right now.
