You must lease the AT&T modem RGW on FTTN /FTTH U- Verse now . POTS line straight DSL ( if they still have it in a given area) may still be either way .

On ATT U-Verse even if you have your own RGW gateway they charge you anyway . The $ 25.00 mo. 25 Mbps U-Verse is only for 12 mos. w/ qualifying service + tax ,etc and the mo. RGW fee and turns into at maybe 74.00 a mo. when the promotion period expires. The qualifying service for the 12 mo. promotion discount price is probably double play or triple play bundle also.

OP might be able to ultimately get 3 Mbps (Internet only ) service for maybe ~ $ 49.00 total *when the 12 mo. promo price ends* .http://www.attsavings.com/internet.h...FdKIfgod6jEIKQ

    I have 18 Gbps AT&T Internet only FTTN U -Verse and it's all total $64.00 here .

Nothing much competitive or a particularly good bargain here with AT&T aside from the fact they aren't enforcing existing data caps on Residential broadband (for now .)

Now that they bought Direct TV they will be the Comcast of the SKY

We cancel the service each Mai when we go to Europe. In November when we are back we restart as new custoners and enjoy their promotion package for $19.95. I think we have done that for the last 18 years - not 100% sure because the wife (who is not here right now) does those minor tasks, LOL.

I was talking about their economy internet basic service. That did cost $19.99 with landline or $25.00 without landline, plus in Indiana you pay for $100 modem and you get to keep it. From what I read the $19.99 or $25.00 is not a special. The price of the Economy service may have gone up since the last time I checked. You got to watch it when ordering, they will put the special in, you just have to remove it and select the cheaper package. The speed is 3 Gbps or less.

It is nice but also expensive to upkeep 2 households. And each time we come to the 'other' home we have 4 weeks of work before everything is routine again. The good part is that the Florida weather beats the German weather during the winter. For everything else we would be better off in Germany. Living in the US is not really attractive for us.

    Hi there.

Good deals can usually be had wherever you are - provided there's at least 2 or more providers -- my experience is that people particularly in developed W.European countries are afraid to bargain -- the worst that can happen is they say No but usually you can hobble a deal of some sort.

The worst parts of a lot of "Cheap" Broadband deals is the REDICULOUS requirement that you often have to have "Line Rental" and that is usually more expensive than the wretched Broadband package - even though you absolutely don't need or want it any more -- (I can't think how long ago it was when I actually used a Phone with a cord hanging on to the handset !!! - or even a phone with a handset).

A bit like Insurance companies insuring your house being struck by a plane or your mobile phone company offering 10,000 Free texts per month etc etc.

The prices could be made really low to ALL households if the Line Rental requirement was removed.

    Cheers

That $19.00 Internet or $25.00 bundle may be a 12 month intro. pomo anyway by now unless it's locally regulated or subsidized ,rember this is AT&T aka Comcast of the Sky now .☻

If you buy the modem in Indiana chances are it's on DSL plans where you can still get it not U-Verse they don't sell the FTTN/FTTB U-Verse modems anymore and nobody else's product will work on U-Verse like it does on DSL .
IRRC with U-Verse & leased modems now they try to stick you up for $100.00 to start the service and roll a truck

I was on ATT old school DSL + line rental racket and owned my ( non ATT & better DSL modem ) before the forced migration to AT&T FTTN U-Verse and leased modems here and got that $100.00 truck roll waived when I told them I wasn't averse to switching to Comcast if they didn't waive the truck roll charge . I didn't mention I hate Comcast more than AT&T . ☻

$25.00 all total is not bad for 3 Gbps ( about what it's worth tops ) It's too slow for much beyond casual web browsing & Email and too slow for 1080p video ( you might get 720p on Netflix OK with one user at thier lower 720p HD encode that is right at 3 gbps but it may buffer and step up and down ) but 3Gbps will work OK for web browsing , some You tube and e mail & 480p Netflix For sure as long as it doesn't sag below ~3Gbps then it can get s**ty .

They might have something inexpensive here like that on U -Verse in a 12 mo promo. I'm not sure.... but there is no DSL left here and all the new & forced migration U-Verse RGW's are leased now.

AT&T is taking out conventional old school DSL and new POTS land line Telco service altogether and doing forced upgrade migrations to U -Verse when FTTN U-Verse comes into an area and they drop the FTTN/FTTB VRADS into a neighborhood . None of that pure DSL is left here it's all FTTN /FTTP U- Verse .

AT&T wants out of narrow bandwidth copper POTS lines and the legacy upkeep cost wherever they can or are willing to remove it .

AT&T usually get's about $53.00 or so all total for 3 Mbps pure DSL including the line service or 6 Mbps FTTN U-Verse outside of an introductory price window although the have a cheaper 3 mbps U verse also but I think it's bundle with at least VOIP Telco service

That would seem like a lot of work, planning and re provisioning and if Florida is anthing like California it's going to H. in a handbasket in general and getting more urban sprawl compared to what it used to be and taxes are always going up !

Hopefully all the things I see on TV about Germany, UK & EU and the ongoing and more recent recent economic immigration & /refugee problems can be handled although it looks to be a big problem....... I won't mention my ideas about all that or what we have in Calif .
