Unless the right-hand strip from the Win 7 start menu can be added to the Win 10 menu, the Stardock / Windows 7 start menu looks quite different functionally and appearance-wise to the current Windows 10 start menu. If one particularly works for a person, I can see them being not easily satisfied with the other.

I use Start8 on Win8 and have since it came out. When Win10 TP came out, they had a new start menu that I liked. But now that they've made it "metro", I'm going to try out the Start10 beta to see if I like that better.

Give the people what they want or they stay with what they have
Microsoft has already seen those results from 8 and at this rate it will repeat in 10.

Classic shell will be my menu of choice. It is highly configurable, looks how you want it too and tweaks the shell too. It is also free but IMHO is better than all the others. I use classic shell on Windows 7 and 8 .1 to get the look I like. On Windows 10 I am just using the native start menu so I can see what is going on. Once Windows 10 is finalized in 2026 I will use Classic Shell.

    - Microsoft sighs, "Okay, here's the best of both worlds"

I don't think the start screen in Windows 8 was the problem, what caused most people grief was not having the Windows 7 style menu. For me I think Windows 8 start screen is perfect for metro, charms bar and all.

I really prefer Windows 8 with a Windows 7 style menu over the Windows 10 interface, why not simply let people choose the way they want to use the machine? All of the elements are still there, just hidden. From reading this forum, it is quite obvious that everyone has their own preferences.

Yes, that goes along with the idea of choice and not one person having their way.

Perhaps my observation was a little overblown.
My point was merely - give it a chance, we don't even know what MS's final offering will be.

    Pretty much a bull's eye.

Personally, if I use Win10, I won't install any 3rd party app. I'll just remove every "live" titles and put the usual shortcuts there. On top of that, I find that stardock softwares tend to be resource hugs and system breaking (introduces glitches). So, big fat no.
