Your absolutely right on your statement,

I work for M$ and do some work time to time for Apple Inc

let me share with you this, Brand new PC's in a year or two will be going for 300.00 or less what is now mainstream is mobile that's where the big coin and development is going forward... by 2018 before 2020 you will see this major change and yes the desktop will start to vanish anytime around 2020 and onward, Smartphones and Tablets right across the mainstream and within enterprise

Cheap production throw away philosophy if cant be repaired and the extra extended warrantee sector can thrive again within their merit, so everyone has a piece of the pie not just IT major players and in many ways that's a very good idea depending on the hardware manufactures and their employees and region if they are taken care of with good benefits and pay rates
You a can get a brand new Intel Pentium 4 core , 4GB ram 500GB Dell small desktop for $279.00 now and an i3 something somewhere for ~ $349.00 if you shop a little and some AMD APU desktops in that range along with any number of low spec. laptops but the rest of your argument certainly has merit that's no lie .

Most people don't need or know how to USE a PC anyway .

These days : they can get by with Mobiles and maybe iptv extenders
or just sync thier mobile out to a doc or something like my Sony Andoid TV that can take on a mouse and KB & USB hdd or bluetooth or USB all that and or that windows 10 phone to screen and KB/mouse or display Continuum display doc or whatever Continuum thingy . I'm sure some wireless and or networked printers and all in one's can fit into this too!

That dang Sony Andoid TV is as much a computer as it is a TV .... good thing the 4K & upscaled to 4K picture is way better than Android works on that thing though

what am I telling you all this you already know for ?

You forgot the Mini Moog and ARP sythesizers as well. The $90 thousand whatever was for the asking price of something no longer made having been the deluxe analog classic Moog seen there with additional modules thrown in! You won't be seeing many modular forms at this since everything now is compact.

And that's another thing about updated av softwares having been bloated beyond belief and resource demanding in years past as far as the larger more full featured programs went. Since that time however software writers have had to compress down not only in size but on how much it takes for a full featured program to run in the background.

Unless one of the files you backup happens to be infected. Let's say it's something you got from somebody else - if they downloaded it off the internet and sent it to you and it's infected guess what happens. I've been there. It was a long time ago, but it happened.
Not to mention the amount of time needed. If you're running a disk imager everyday (or a few times every day) that's pretty much your full day right there

ASIC's or modern CPUs !

OTOH I don't miss stacks of books ,daily newspapers and monthly magazines, print catalogs .Columbia Binders ,Binders ,too many File cabinets , encyclopedias or contact media for music or video aka magnetic tape and vinyl phonograph records ,typewriters ,ditto machines ,Carbon paper, analog rotary coil TV tuners , electro mechanical devices automotive ,aviation and power boat engine carburetors ,Loud Turbo Jet & Reciprocating engine propeller airliners double edge razors and NIXIE tubes ,electronic tubes ,Push mowers , women wearing girdles, discrete transistors and circuits and CRT's scan line no definition NTSC TV or film or the other long gone stuff above . © me

I still read books, magazines, and the local news paper. I still listen to music on vinyl records and tapes. I still have AM & FM radios in my vehicles and house. My motorcycle has two carburetors and runs great. I shave with a double edge razor. I use my push mower more than my rider. In fact I still have a old fashion rotary mower that I use at times. Does this make me old and behind the times? :)

    @Winuser,

Not at all and your 100% clear and right on topic on your statement...

I agree with you, a lot of the old gear wont be going out of style anytime soon. I see your point and I am the same way...

I use lots of the old technology today why? it performs better and I like technology that works for me... and I have no problem if everyone likes the new trends and new technology and I respect that, but personally what works for me I always stay put and keep on using it and servicing it if required...

Thank you for your observation and great comments :)

We will see complete compact systems in 2017 as low as $199.99 these systems will re-write the standards in hardware integration everything will be a sealed type of hardware that is intergraded very compact in the likes of smartphone boards and chips very cheap to produce and no service just throw away or replace if something goes terrible wrong or something gets knocked out within the core hardware aspect and all these material's are 100% recyclable

That makes all sense in a Enterprise setting and for the personal single user regarding over all costs, the vendors just will have to group in extended warrantee and some form of hardware upgrades in the area or life cycles and derations and with this step they can lower or cut their IT budget in half or all together out of their operating costs

Well I guess I'm old fashion I run NIS as I have from the beginning seems that back in 2008 or 2009 the cleaned up the program and I don't notice in running in the back ground and protecting myself and less aware users from ourselves. In 2012 I have added Malwarebytes pro I got free lifetime subscriptions. I don't notice with both running any overhead slow downs. With currently 2 PC 1 all in one and 1 notebook we haven't had any serious malware Virus issues. Seem the last few years I'm finding 5 and 10 users versions for less than $30 a year. So unless something changes this is how were going to roll for the near future.
My wife will get a tablet for her next computer when the All In One dies off. My Galaxy S5 Active is all the tablet I need so keeping a full blown Gaming notebook and 2 PC is how I see my future

It's all good and who am I to dictate your choices anyway?

vinyl can sound real good but I just choose to get the same sound on digital for convenience and consistency that's all and I reads a good book now and then but FM radio is mostly horribly over compressed and for Zombies around here outside of maybe 3 stations but they are overcompressed as well and FM reception is not all that here anyway
but I enjoyed FM for many years before it went south and at one point it often sounded better than some crappy vinyl productions .

I'm spoiled by fuel injection V8's ,my late model GMC 1500 ext cab w/ ARE Chrome 20's and Gillette multi edge razors, 4K HDR TV , 5.1 sound even on regular TV like it all has (or most of it does ) now and 1080p ultra gaming and Peet's house blend also .I use a riding mower tractor on the back of my one acre lot here but I still still use the 7 hp gasoline push mower now and then on the lawn in between the house and the bldg outback and out frt both at the front of the property in between using the ride on . Put my time in on rotary manual push mowers when I was younger though but not since the mid 70's 's at small houses on small lots .

My last bike was a stonking fast 4 cyl Kawasaki 900 Z- 1B with a Yoshimura 1173 big bore kit ,cams & carbs ,needle bearing boxed swing arms 16" rear wheel & tire ,dual discs up front ( they came with one ) ,gussets welded between the top tubes to help with the pee ur pants high speed death wobble they all had and S&W air shocks in the frt forks and 1/2 pitch custom Diamond brand chain and aftermarket sprockets to keep from shredding the stock chain... that thing would pass everything but radar and an angry judge back then and could embarrass anything stock on two or four wheels then even when it was stock when I bought it .......sold the Kawi and my Honda 750 -4 grocery getter....... Then I got into offshore power boats and started burning real money and petrol up to 40-50 gph
    when you pushed them

Tip of the day if you are going boating go on other peoples boats

Is paying for antivirus a waste of money?-kawasaki-z1.jpg
    stock Kawasaki Z1
just like the one I bought new

We have choices and that's all good I like it that way ........but individually we can't change the product broad markets and sometimes thay change much faster than we do otherwise we would all likely be posting here from mobiles today !

The marketing folks almost try and shame you into going mobile these days like you ain't ( it ) but old news instead on a much more functional PC one can use these days and mobile product placement on TV and in film is way over the top and defies reality outside of a NYC or SF city street or a shopping mall especially with Apple you would think CSIxx and some other shows solves all the crimes and collects evidence with their mobiles

Now a lot of employers have to get hard with folks wasting time at work with all that and folks be wrecking cars behind all that too and some people call or text each other in the same crib instead of hollering at them or getting up off they azz and talking normal !

Outside of a legitimate business case $6-$800 for a full boat high memory smartphone is ridiculous a $150- $200.00 4 core Snapdragon CPU ZTE phat screen phone (or like that)...what I have , it can do most of all that and has Gorilla glass too ...almost the same for the tard pads and I want most my Youtube and all my Netflix put up on 55" , 64" or 40" here or at least 27" in front of me now for YT..... and I can get all that in the TV or Roku's or PS3 anyway !
