Is paying for antivirus a waste of money?

I don't even bother with the new cell phones out since everything on the shelves you find now is all touchscreen menu after menu after menu until you can finally bring up the onscreen keypad?! I bought a pair of Android touchscreen combo with separate plugin keyboard deals as gift for a friend's two kids a year ago and as soon as one stepped outside in the cold the screen fragmented!

That ended up needing to be replaced while the first now holds a trackball mouse being used as a mouse stand for a pc inside the tv stand! Supposedly some place locally will replace displays on cell phones as well as smart phones I still have to look into to get that one fixed or end up tossing it.

Meanwhile IPhonies lately have another big concern with the Fruit company now recalling what Sony had to do with it's laptops several years back when they catch on fire! Been seeing a few reports like the one on a flight suddenly flaring up and owner grabbing a blanket to snuff it out in a fast hurry! Plane Passenger's iPhone Catches on Fire Video - ABC News

Talk about hardwares acting up! Who needs malwares when you can't trust the devices themselves!

Another factor of course is "Over Pricing" which the fruit company is only too well known for! But they get everyone excited over each new model still! Here the Samsung cell phone has a limited form of web browser as well as camera and music player even I hardly ever even use. A few texts back and forth with family or pizza/grinder orders while out somewhere is when I see that in use while the landline and non embedded OSs on pcs do much better! :)

No contests PC rule by miles over anthing outside of a phat HDR TV or decent plasma for movies and TV or the urgent need for a PDP or phone away from a PC


PC rules gaming with the right build( PC games are often coded better and w/ higher res. & detail ) and music even with a modest headphone amp & maybe DAC also and lossless audio at 16/44 and up to maybe 24/48 *IMO* like we use for mixing and editing and the safety master before media specific post mixing that is as a fact even truncated to 16/44 way more accurate and resolving than contact media like tape and vinyl I grew up with on a good mix if you don't squash it and or auto tune the life out of if .

ofc snob audiophiles that never been is a studio for a long time interval or worked a DAW or mixes and don't know the workflow ,digital noise shaping and digital word length truncation or digital discrete time signal sampling and playback and Shannon Nyquist theorems and media specific post production beyond the crap the read at snob audiophile rag zines and web sites don't have a clue about all this just like I don't know big iron or programing or software dev. .

OTOH digitized analog master tapes sound real well at their usual ~ just over or at half bit depth of an ordinary 16/44 RBCD ☻☻

FWIW the Windows 10 Groove Music app is way cool for music playback and your library's on a win 10 PC outside of a studio and or DAW and it fetches metadata and cover art of the web .and has a nice GUI

Now they are rolling the millennials into thinking vinyl is trendy and the next cool thing and what they ain't telling is most vinyl is and has been produced from digital recordings and mixes for well over 35 yrs anyway I was there and 180G vinyl doesn't necessarily sound any better than the standard stuff the big labels all used and sometimes worse on a poor production ☻☻I'm still laughing about all that some audiophiles and wanna bees are darwinist & clueless and also waste money on ridiculously over priced bling cables and power cords and over priced audiophile HDWE instead of decent reference quality pro stuff like in my sig although that THX PM3 stuff ain't cheap either .

What gets me now is the latest reports on the latest model available being touted as "more secure" (gag cough choke blah) then the last model. When hand helds and texting became the new trend and everybody had to have one the malware writers as expected got busy and despite the alledge increase in security the apps people download onto their devices are still going to be the gateways for the malwares and other things!

"You in heap of trouble boy!" With the Android market having flourished over the last 5-6yrs. you only too well know that someone has been busy writing things! It won't take long for some new bugs to effect this latest offering of Fruit to be compromised in some way. You have to wonder at times if some of these bugs are actually being insider jobs in order to promote some softwares? Well when you get your new ..... you might want to get.... blah blah blah program that offers..... "insider fix"?

Here I stick with the basics with a few extra only on a more or less still basic cell phone with a very limited browser anyone could care the least about but offers the compact size but still viewable display. Nothing can be done maliciously without first even knowing the number and only then sending pictures or text with links. Smart phones and other things with embedded OSs however do tend to have the most problems since you can open doors by way of the more open web access.

A friend's kid shows up last week with a new smart phone without any service plan where I showed him how to select WiFi access by the router here but only good while he visits. For just getting onto one of the social networks he will have to continue to find free hot spots until he does get a regular plan going. He only works part time however where any good plan would strap his small income quite well however!
