Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 KB3140743

The ones who are having trouble, are they on upgraded from win8.1 etc. ones, or also on new computers built with Windows 10 on them?

It's been four days since this week's updates were installed and my P.C. is running worse than it did before the updates. Web pages are rendering slowly at times... sometimes sites will time-out while waiting for them to load.

SFC /scan now won't complete... delivers an error at 48%. Avast says that it can't scan some files because they're corrupted... both are CAB DLL's related to Windows Certificates.

Does Microsoft have a trouble-shooter for scanning Windows10 systems yet? Something that will scan the entire Operating System & drivers on the PC, and then pull in fixes, or tell me how to fix what it finds wrong.

If Microsoft has nothing like this, what software would be good to use? Any recommendations?

Dear Allen,

A quick solution would be to remove Avast that is the source of your bugs. Make sure you remove it using Revo Uninstaller Pro and decline the Avast pop-up asking to take care of the uninstall process. Delete all files in Revo and run Defender after.

After this operation you can run Ccleaner and then sfc /scannow. I don't remember which one you have to remove first, but I remember that one of them must be delete first. Early in the Insider program, I try Avast and after removing it things were much more better.

Keep in mind that a clean install is always the best solution to get rid once and for all of corrupted files.

P.S.: Don't take it personally because I'm just sharing my 20 some years of experience with you and only try to help. Windows 10 runs much more better under Defender. Believe me, I try them all and made more then 100 installations of Win Ten since last May.

Yes it is ok to go straight to 10586 from Win 7. If you set it to update automatically the Win 7 install will be upgraded to Win 10 10586.

Update: After replacing what turned out to be a failing HD the '586 install went without issue on another old floptop (D630 1.8) using the DVD I used to update the 580 DT.

Trouble is I get the impression they are so desperate to add stuff instead of worrying too much about bugs. Just my thoughts by the way, I know not all will agree with me in this - I just prefer less bugs, better stability over the new. At the moment Windows 10 seems to need a very delicate touch and should the wind change direction whilst in use things can break ...

I entirely agree.
MS should concentrate on fixing bugs, not trying to introduce new features, and introducing bugs instead. New features should, in general, be reserves for new versions of Windows. That way, people can choose when, where, and if they wish to upgrade, and not have mandatory upgrades upgrading themselves, bugs and all.

I believe that stability, not features, is the key to producing a good Operating System.

From where I sit, there was no benefit in the upgrade from Win10 10240 to 10586, but it did introduce the network discovery bug, which now, 3 months later, is just getting fixed.
Like you say, Upgrade Russian Roulette.

If you think about it, the perfect OS would never need an update or upgrade! Maybe that's what MS should be aiming for, not something that changes every few weeks or months.

I have the "these results may be incomplete" search bug after this update. I made a new user and it is unable to search properly.

Losing faith in Windows with stuff like this. Time to do yet another fresh install...

I have noticed one very small change in the way pictures are displayed when using the default W10 'Photos' viewer.

Previously, if you loaded a picture and then clicked the + (zoom) button once then the picture both zoomed, but, it also sharpened and enhanced a little. If you zoomed back the effect remained. Closing the viewer and reloading and it started from scratch, following the first zoom and the image sharpened. That does not now happen following this update... well actually to be more correct, following this update and then the next update check. I know because I've proved it twice (on my system) by restoring back. Nothing else was changed by me, just the updates installed.
