I tried earlier but I couldn't see a way, just wondered if a hidden way of doing it, looks like not
I have them set to auto update so not much of a problem, just when I read of update I like to try and get it

While I was looking in file explore, I created a Settings App shortcut to desktop though
Now to customize the icon

Fantastic! There you go! Made simple and rather good find except you are not able to download it even by saving it as an image file with a right click unfortunately. You would need a direct link for that.

For example on the control panel you can easily see for example Administrative tools - but if you didn't know this name how would you get it from the Settings as there's no (or at least none that I can see) Browse facility of all the options.

If you have the wisdom of "The Holy Ghost" and know about "Administrative tools" then you can get to it from the settings.

There are other options too that unless you know the name of you won't get at from the Settings.

Maybe it's a deliberate design policy to keep a lot of available options from the user -- in my experience of almost every field of endeavour EDUCATION is far better than keeping users in ignorance or generally dumbing down things as so often seems the case these days.

Note also in future releases that control.exe program might not be there so that trick won't be guaranteed to always work. !!

So don't you know after that Linux Mint breach at the main site everyone will now become Windows expert from simply paying more attention now to Windows then before! Now many will be scared enough to stay with MS for fear of getting bugged with open source downloads!

Now don't forget the control.exe shortcut there since you can right click to pin a good number of CP items if not simply create a new desktop shortcut for just about everything found there to the Start menu or Quick Access! Some items like Desktop Gadgets only see the shortcut option only.

That way I don't have to click start button every time

One thing not mentioned so far is the Desktop Icon Setting option to see the CP made visible the same way the Recycle Bin, Network, User files are also listed as check box items. That's another quickie besides browsing for the control.exe file to create and simply pin a shortcut.



The one thing about all this however is that over time and even with the newer builds to come for 10 only the gradual change will see more items open up the Settings sub section when going to click on something in the present CP! Several besides what is mentioned in the report regarding the taskbar are already in there as most are aware.

I forgot to include the icon in the shortcut zip file. The download zip has now been updated

The download link was the problem since I was only finding the icon itself. Added that one into the Utilities Quick launch toolbar's folder there.

Ut oh since the Threshold 2 upgrade over the 10586 Insider Preview it replaced got buggy and not allowing folders to be renamed the main is now seeing the latest back to Insider builds 14271 going on! Restart scheduled! That was quick!

Update: That did the trick! That problem has a solutiion!
