Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14271 Insider
-
Except........................ System Protection is off again.
That's not a big deal, though...as you would not want to try to restore a previous build's restore, eh? Likely wouldn't work, anyway.
I have to do the following every time I install a new build:
1) Check sys restore and turn on if needed
2) Disable Prefetch Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters (because I have an SSD)
3) Turn off the superfetch service (also because I have an SSD)
4) Turn off disk defrag for drive c:\ (also because I have an SSD)
5) Wanted to edit this one in as I'd forgotten, but I also have to change the size of all screen fonts to 11 from 9 via Advanced Display Properties.
6) Reinstall Printer
That's it, IIRC...
Would be nice if Windows knew I was booting Windows from an SSD and configured these things automatically...!

No new build download once again. This time nothing on laptop (which usually gets the new builds) nor the desktop (which has stopped getting new builds several back. Does anyone know what the latest email from Gabe was all about? I don't think any of us have to do something different do we? In order to get latest builds....?

Still no sign in picture? So hard to fix?

snip
But they could delete the old restore files but leave the restore on, couldn't they?
The scenario I am dreading is that if the restore is turned off in all the comps I support around the district, I am going to be peeved off if it takes hours to fix a problem instead of minutes to restore.
However, all those comps will have up-to-date images to fall back to, eh?:)

Forgot to restart , 14271 has been ready to re start in WU almost all day I'll do that now and watch some TV while it installs ! .........
First I have to clean out the OLD Windows folder with the last build in there ( well I just like to do it that way anyway you don't really have to AFAIK unless you don't have enough HDD space ... I think I've 2 or 3 stacked up in the past wasting space ....) ...........no big deal

I know that the notification area (systray) has a known issue in this build when "Always show all icons in the notification area" is selected. I do not have this selected. However I do have two hideous arrows (left/right) in the notification area. This is the first build that I have ever seen these arrows. Is there any way to get rid of them? Also I noticed that Aero peek does not work.

Lappy and Desktop both updated about the same time.

Repeatedly getting a download/installation error for x86 here: 0x8024201c
install.esd fails to decrypt in ESDtoISO, and cannot be opened by 7-zip:
Restart and retry I guess
