Anything is possible at this point! In order to get 10 drivers I would need to replace the present video card since the AMD/ATI support only sees upto 8.1 64bit drivers since the 5000 line up was already 5yrs. old. I would need at least a card from the 7000 seires which also leaves the 6450 out on the second mini tower I use for testing purposes.

Now here's a good one for you! For the tv tuner/video capture long time discontinued 10 wasn't going to run any 64bit Vista or 7 drivers and since the card was caput years ago the only way to get it working on 10 was.... steal drivers for another model PCIe card for the PCI type card which saw 8.1 x64 drivers and that card's app! The tuner part was never going to work anyways while the composite input allows for analog captures. Digital recordings can be uploaded onto pc direct without any worry.

I won't get video drivers anytime soon for the integrated Intel 915/910 chipset GMA on my Acer Travelmate Celeron M, 2GB RAM - they never made it to Windows 7, but until now, the graphics have worked OK with the Basic display adapter, even with Windows 8. For some reason, the reserved Video RAM for this driver, both in Windows 10 and Windows PE in the setup, is 1 GB, compared with 256 MB before, which makes a mockery of the statement that Windows 10 will run on 1 GB Installed RAM - setup will not even complete properly, running out of steam when setting up the user account, and failing to properly complete the OOBE. Consequently a hobbled system - activated, but unusable, despite SFC and Dism reporting no problems. Reset fails during the FirstWndUX at about 31% - adding drivers, similar to attempted, but failed upgrades from Windows 7.

Sysprepping in audit mode just keeps on going, doing nothing, and the only way I got anwhere - a clean install using Kyhi's WinPESE, with USA locale settings and networks disconnected is no real joke. I'll keep it as a curiosity. - At least I have a digital entitlement - and I'll get back to running XP on the Acer as it was intended, with a Windows 7 dual boot.

Well with anything like netbooks, tablets, a multitude of older laptops, etc. which tend to see faster turnovers you have to expect any model is only good for so many versions. 7 was two versions newer then XP and then you add 10 which is in fact three version newer then 7. That equals five versions of Windows newer! See the problem? Try running a 3.1 system on XP Pro 64bit? Where are the drivers? None were written! Server 2003 x64 drivers were often used! Going to try running a 64bit Windows on an IBM 286? NADA Not happening! Likewise XP hardwares are rather stone elephant boat anchors at this time as far as technology goes..

Actually the 1gb minimum brings MS right backwards to how it was 512mb with Vista and people were wondering why Vista ran so sloowwwww...... when it should have been 1gb. 2gb recommended by MS back then but those OEM didn't want to see more memory included on those old systems! So MS gave in to their whims and most saw Vista as a tank! At this time however with most running at least 3gb with any new laptop only tablets being limited to 2gb with embedded OSs there most are seeing the 64bit Windows with 4gb 3gb more common however even with the 64bit at times!, 6gb more so lately, or 8gb of memory which solves that fast!

The illustration of trying to run XP on an old IBM 286 would be trying to run XP on a machine that only saw 16mb of memory! A 486 saw 64mb while a 386 saw 32mb being typical back in the early to mid 90s. Just like the video cards on both desktops here should be replaced due to not seeing past 8.1 x64 drivers. That will be coming sooner or later on the main at least since 10 is on for good while the new card still needs to support 7 for the dual boot.

I know you're right, NightHawk, but I cannot help but think of a computer as a universal symbol processor - something that at basic level just runs binary code and on the surface does whatever the programmer wants. You are not going to see the narrow window of hardware support shown by Windows versions in linux distros, for instance. So it comes down to deliberate hobbling by the Windows development team and their OEM partners to push hardware support forward, without leaving the opportunity to support some capable hardware in a backwards fashion - see this guy's case - CPU Running Extremely Hot - Windows 10 Forums

I can understand Microsoft replacing yesterday's favourite Windows offering with their new baby, but not denying the opportunity for the grandparents to see their descendents, as it were. It seems unfair. My usual hobby horse is lack of support for Win32 help system - I know it's insecure, and I'm prepared to take that risk so that I can still run old software I bought without limitations, when the programs still run fine - just the knowledgebase in the context sensitive help system is denied to the application.

Computers used to be fun, now they are flatter and duller with each new edition and there's less that you can do with them as time goes by. You can't buy systems that run the stuff I want to play with, and you can't run the stuff I want on the systems of today, and even less will be possible in the future.

Well that's what they call "Progress being made"?! At times it may not seem that way but! When you look at how fast the hardwares were seeing changes over the last 15yrs. between the desktop bloom and then slumber leading MS to invest in Surface! considering the desktop market to some as being doa? when first coming out with 8 that is you also have to examine the capacities of going from 32-64mb and back then note even 98SE not able to run on more then 500mb of memory where now you typically 2gb+ for a 32bit system alone you then come to realize that the newer OS had to be designed for the newer capacities being brought in. The 64bit of course offers the nearly 200gb of memory support 7 saw. Max memory limits for 64-bit Windows 7 | ZDNet

Windows 8 is able to see quite a bit more actually with 8, 8.1 able to 128gb 10 will with Enterprise, Education, and Pro editions end up with a 2tb max! Home still sees the 128gb maximum there however. Memory Limits for Windows and Windows Server Releases (Windows)

Gee and I spent $320US on 7 Ultimate and it won't see more then 8 Home does? At least 10 was a freebie at least at first anyways!

With you there. I paid a huge amount (a couple of hundred Euro) to upgrade from 7 Pro to Ultimate because I needed to change the language. The next week 8 was released and 8 Pro had multi-language for free anyway. The upgrade cost $15 or some absurdly low sum.

Can't do anything about it though - just one of those things.

I completely skipped 8. It didn't offer enough improvement to be worth it, and the interface was .

14257 just started DLing, finally! Here's hoping it fixes some of the issues I've had with 10586.

I think it made him sick and it did for many others. The removal of the start menu was not a good idea.. but heck. It's back in all it's glory.
