-
I actually use Defender and I've not had issues with it.
me too, I have been using only Defender and Malwarebytes since win7,, and I had so few minor issues since ,I could not even tell you what they were ,,I have 3 computers with win10, one of them an insiders since early 2015,its still running on the same install ...I seem to get updates on time ,but admit I don't watch it to closely

While we all like the new builds, it is nice to have a little time to work with them before another is introduced. I want to thank f14tomcat for helping me get the latest build installed and working on my desktop computer. I had some difficulty and nothing seemed to work correctly for a while but finally everything is working well with it and now I can see what is different with this build.
Once you have the new build installed you could switch to the slow ring until your ready to try the next build. Then you could switch back to the fast ring. Install the new build and switch back to the slow ring.

Well, duh, I never thought about that. Good idea. Thanks

You're welcome! I thought about doing it myself but I enjoy testing new builds to much.

Exactly that's the way to go.
The last builds were not only boring, because the lack of new features, but also too buggy for my taste.
It's also f*cking annoying, that with every build, most of the settings are reset.
I've switched back to the slow ring until some really interesting build will be released.

There has always been a waiting list for when updates arrive, new insider builds. This has been true from the beginning.
And defender updates should come faster.. anti virus stuff is more important, IMO.
As I was saying the volume of traffic will be the factor that will decide when you get something rather then there being some type of problem when you already have things set to go that is. Delays are certainly nothing new with MS at all!
WD updates I could only care for on a VM while the av software used here also has a separate app for adding protection around VMs as well as your physical machine since the company anticipates people working with VMware and other VM type players.
If you count Defender as AV software, then that's part of the problem.
It's a band-aid for those not smart enough to get real software for true protection.
Still waiting for update. Several reboots didn't make any difference.
You can reboot all day and it won't arrive any sooner since it took a full week after the 2/4 check for all updates and the 7 side on the remote case just saw a half dozen security, one cumulative for IE 11, and one for the Malicious Software Removal Tool which never seems to have any problem seeing updates go on and not past of the WD app either.
Now as far as the WD itself why do you think it is automatically disabled as soon as you put on some real protection. MS doesn't want the av software or some other program seeing it as a threat! AV program will clash with each other on the spot as a rule and why you can only run one at a time and why McAFail trials left checked off when missed never seem to get on at all!

It likely wasn't any real problem to begin with but simply the delays in who gets it being seen from time to time! With the other builds as well as the Threshold 2 update they all appeared within about 5hrs. time of the last check for and install of the updates at that time. Once all the rest was on suddenly there it was! This time however it must have been our time to be put on hold!

First time waited for over 10 days the update finally arrived. It was arriving the same day in the past when new build released.
Solved problems on build 14251 of:
1. Favorites sub-folders' links disappeared.
2. Installed with codecs that .flv and some video files won't play in WMP.
Other than known issues, everything else seems work fine.

It's not only video files that have problems these days but MS deciding strip out all codecs for dvd movie playback, Video cd projects and other stuff you might have burned to disk from a vhs or digital camcorder to have on optical simply will no longer play! That was another part of the goof brought in with 8 back in 2012 seen there! MS thinking was there was already too many players on the web? Yet their store suddenly sees VLC an open source player readily available since that saves them the money of including the codecs! See how that goes?! And while both Vista and 7 saw the Ultimate edition MS decided to do away with that one in 8 as well to stick with just the Home and Pro editions not counting the Corporate(Vista) and later Enterprise editions(7 and later).
The July release and it's initial buggyness there reminds me about either the second or third 7 beta build before that version's RC build came along which is almost equal to the 10565 and 10576 builds. The TH2 update has been reliable on the main build while the 14257 is going well on the second so far. I still need to toss a few more programs on the other case however to push 10 a bit further.

You could be right. Now it seems to run very well without any glitches. This build never did load onto the desktop; I had to make a iso from my laptop and install it on my desktop. Then multiple problems started and it was unhappy for several days. Finally I downloaded the Logitech drivers for mouse and keyboard. Then it really went into a tailspin. I tried to remove the drivers and couldn't remove them because of some error message. Then I went away and left it for a day or so, and all the problems went away, the Logitech drivers work and all is well. Self-healing! Who knows!
