Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 KB3136562
-
I asked @MicrosoftHelps on twitter "Why is Windows 10 build 10586.79 not being offered on Windows Update" and linked this forum. Rubbish response of "Thanks for reaching out. Updates are released to the public in waves. Keep us posted if you need further assistance. I don't suppose they will respond to my response tweet of "That is a typical Microsoft vague answer. Why is nobody receiving this build via Windows Update? Microsoft needs to communicate".
In short they don't know. It seems MS is so big the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I just want them to communicate better. If they just said yes this build will be available in the normal channels soon I would at least be happier. At the moment there is just uncertainty. The shroud of secrecy is what makes the likes of MS and Apple unpopular, at least for me. It builds a love and loathe relationship .

I asked @[URL="https://www.tenforums.com/members/microsoft.html"]Why is nobody receiving this build via Windows Update? Microsoft needs to communicate"
It isn't a new build. The build is still 10586.
It is a cumulative update (that changes only the minor build number) that MS haven't decided to release yet. When they are happy they'll release it (or not, presumably).
Considering it isn't released, there is no indication whatsoever what it is supposed to do I'd just not worry about it at all. @hTconeM9user says it makes everything go faster on all his systems though so you could try it if you are curious.
I'm not brave enough as something (I think Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware beta) deleted my whole users folder so I've spent all morning restoring.

Yes I have not installed Anti-Ransomware beta and wont until it is out of beta

Nah, it will just download more than required and replace everything - even objects that are identical. The old versions will be stuck in C:\Windows\WinSxS\Temp\PendingDeletes and removed automatically. Normally a reboot will do it, sometimes you need other tricks.
I do think it is questionable benefit to install something that hasn't been generally released through Windows update, with no indication of what it does. I certainly will wait but do appreciate others testing it out. I like testing insider builds but insider cumulative updates? No thanks.
Thanks for the info.
"... insider cumulative updates ..." : that's a good one !
More seriously, I'll definitely wait for what happens through the conventional WU channel. And if it only arrives next week on Patch day, it's still OK for me ...

Yes they should I agree with you there.
But have installed it on all my systems and daughters systems.
Which overall is 26 systems not one mess up and all updates went in as they should
One thing we have noticed the system starts up and shuts down quicker.
Also the web pages load faster at least on all systems we installed it on
Hope that helps you unless you want to wait.
I do confirm this post, startup was already fast i cannot really say if and how faster it is, but shoutdowns are amazingly fast.

It'd be tough to improve on my start up. Literally goes through BIOS and then the desktop login is ready. Maybe a second. I think that fast startup option is enabled by default but even if I do a full restart it seems to be the same. I'm pretty pleased with that. Didn't realise SSD drives were so good. I guess in conjunction with Windows 10 they make a good match.
My other laptop with Windows 7 and mechanical HD takes nearly 5 minutes to fully settle down after a reboot!!

I've done a Pro and a Home, both 64-bit, using the download and no problems yet. My versions went from 10586.71 to 10586.79.

Clean upgrade here, no issues. As far as startup time goes, I have no idea. However my Restart Time remains identical to time prior to this update. Which is still plenty fast for me compared with my old system running XP...
-
Mine, currently
Note please that the Restart-Time.vbs script includes also the time of all the programs set to run on startup in its calculation. I have two: CCleaner Pro and HWiNFO64. Otherwise, in my system, from the time I will press the OK button in the script until I will see my desktop again, seventeen (17) seconds pass.
