It was about time. WD is not that bad as some people claim it to be.

I'm just curious, why do you do regular scans? I really only have Windows Defender and once in two-three months (if even that) scan it with something like Malwarebytes and that's about it. Do you often visit websites that aren't well known / possibly unsafe? Or do you have multiple people using your PC?
Just trying to figure out why so many people are protecting themselves with multiple programs when built-in MSE (Ok, Windows Defender) is just about enough to handle stuff for most normal users.
For example, this thread just reminded me and I downloaded Malwarebytes software, installed, updated & ran a scan and this is the result:
And I use my PC A LOT, 24/7 connected to internet, browsing a ton etc.
Better protection against malware and viruses and the like are the reasons I favour using third-party
AV software on my PC. You can do a 1001 scans with something basic, but it only takes just one
infection, to turn your PC into a pile of junk... it is always best to reduce that chance.
I will add that I have always favoured and used over the last seventeen years, third-party
software whenever possible, for everything on my PC.
I dropped Avast since Windows 8 and just used Defender, I only had minor infections coming from flash disk inserted from another computer when some of my family members borrowed my PC but I never had any major malware problem since then. It all really comes down to how careful you use the internet and external drives.
still looks like it's bringing up the rear to me, protection wise, big boy wise.
I have three Win 10 machines. One has WD running, one has AVG free, one Kaspersky. The only one that has actively prevented malware from getting on my machine is the one running Kaspersky. The others aren't as upfront - they often allow malware to start to run before stopping it. Kaspersky just plain stops it. I can see it in the logs - emails with viral attachments, spam email, suspicious webpages, etc etc. Every time, Kaspersky is the one that just works. I don't browse dangerously, I don't adopt unsafe email practices.
