All true but: You could say that Windows 7 will eventually get Spartan because all Windows 7 users will be able to update for free to Windows 10 which will get spartan...
yes but they only got a year to upgrade
only a year !we only one need 1 day to do it
I bet the servers might get overloaded in the first few days.. but I'll try later in the night to get my copy!!
was just making a point ,it will likely be busy for a long time ,because its FREE ,everyone in computer land loves free ---
SO true.. and so far, IMO, Win10 is a nice OS.

I just like using the start menu.. I have for some time and the new one works fine, is organized the way I want it and it looks nice at the same time. It would be nice to be able to select from different versions of the start menu when you set up Win10 and later on in the settings. I would like to see: Win7 look, Win10 and something else.

I wonder if they can properly distinguish between OEM SLIC licenses of Windows 7 and *ahem* a relatively popular and highly reliable circumvention that installs a fake SLIC as a driver...

A bios mod that injects a SLIC table is indistinguishable from a genuine OEM bios (the emulator you are referring to can easily be nuked, MS just chose not to for some reason) - almost certainly a retail or COA key will be required.

There was an actual reason why Microsoft didn't hunt down those illegal activators with such rigor is mostly because if an unactivated, nonupdated builds of Windows 7 or later were being actively used on and connected to the internet, that puts EVERYONE at risk because someone could exploit flaws in an unpatched version and attack all sorts of compulators. There is also the fact that these days, people might be installing pirated Windows onto other peoples' systems without them knowing, so there's the warning message that comes up if an activator was removed by a recent update, I don't know if that could still get updates though...

There are much different activator methods out there these days than with 7 to activate 8.1 illegally. Obviously I'm not going to say what or how, but it's definitely not the OEM BIOS SLIC method anymore as the new licensing model of 8 is much different than 7. Just don't pirate Windows, buy a cheap copy of 7 or 8 and wait for 10.

I did a test of mine the other day. My OEM Slic upgrade without any issue. However, I found out you can't cheat install windows 10 preview upgrade and keep windows 7 on another partition even with grubs help. I found out Windows 10 will use Windows 7 boot partition code if upgraded, which messes up windows 7. Yes, I tried bootrec /fixboot and boot /fixmbr didn't fix it. The only thing it removed during the upgrade was my printers.

If I do decide to upgrade it all depends of what the life of device really means and how well I can configure it, once the consumer preview comes out? It also depends if I want 32 bit or 64 bit since I only have 4 gb of ram. I can install the 32 bit of Windows 7 using the oem key on the back of my computer then do then upgrade.

32 bit wont use all 4 GB of ram only 64 bit would 32 bit can only use up to 3 gb of ram

Dave44, Found out if I ever decided to upgrade it will be the 64 bit version. My program doesn't run on either 32 bit or 64 bit. I will still have to dual boot with Linux. Until possibly wine comes up with a windows version that runs older software, it under development last I read.
