How to get a replacement AC power cord for your Surface Pro

Today, in consultation with safety regulators, we announced a voluntary replacement program for all Surface Pro AC power cords sold before March 15, 2015, in the U.S. and Canada and before July 15, 2015, in other markets where Surface is sold. If the cord is wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time there is a potential risk for the AC cord– the cord that connects the power supply unit to the electrical socket – to overheat.

While there are no reports of serious injury, a small number of our customers have reported this issue and we are taking action to address by making free replacement cords available to all eligible customers. The safety of our customers is our top priority.

What does this mean for you?

If you bought a Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro 3 in the above timeframe, we recommend you get a free replacement AC power cord from Microsoft as soon as possible. To see if you qualify for a free replacement and begin the exchange process, please visit www.surface.com/powercord.

If you have any other questions regarding your Surface Pro, please contact our Surface Support team.
To review our instructions for power cord care, please visit the Power Cord Care section of our support website.

This is for getting a FREE replacement for a defective power cord instead of what you posted.

You should be able to to that at the store also. Either at the store online and they will send it to you or a store at the mall. They are there to help the customer out. They want to make your Surface experience pleasureable. In fact they want you to replace it as soon as possible. It like if you have a recall on your car you don't go to the auto part store you go to the dealer.
