    Not even VLC Player ?
What do you use to play DVDs ?
I rip all my bluray/dvds to mkv and play them with the default Video app since it can now play mkv files. I haven't used VLC since W10 came out.

I only use Chrome from those listed apps. :)

Anyone knows if there is a VLC Portable that is 64bit?

Thanks davidhk, I think that's the 32bit portable. Every 64bit portable I tried doesn't work.

But near the bottom, in faint text, it says...........................
Compatibility with this software may vary, but will generally run fine under Microsoft Windows 10, 8, 8.1, 7, Vista and XP on either a 32-bit or 64-bit setup. A separate x64 version may be available from PortableApps.

Oh. Never mind. I got it now.
    Sorry.

Yeah, what they are saying is the standard portable version which is 32bit will work on x64 as well just like on the author's side, you will see only the 32 bit has a 7Zip and Zip version which is basically the Portable version while the 64 bit x64 only has a Installer which requires installing.

An update, I contacted the author of VLC by email concerning the 64 bit portable version of VLC and it's existence and this was their response:

"There is one: http://download.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/2.2.1/win64/vlc-2.2.1-win64.zip . Just a little hint: be aware, the 32bit version is way more stable than the 64bit one. Our developers are trying to solve the issue in a future version, but in this one the 64bit tends to crash. If you use is and one of those crashes happens, we would be very happy to get some information about it. This would help us a lot to figure out, what the problems are."

I did use VLC Player, but found Daum Potplayer to be much better. Plus Potplayer has a 64-bit version, which I don't believe VLC does yet.
I hadn't heard of Potplayer before, but I gave it a spin and find it to be more powerful than VLC. (although there is a slight learning curve) Thanks larc919!

YW! :) I first saw Potplayer recommended at gizmo's freeware site, tried it and have never looked back.

Everyone needs to find its own set of necessary programs for regular use, which is why "Top Ten" lists will be different. Furthermore, it is a good idea to prefer apps which do not require registration and "cloud" connection (i.e. which do not collect informations about user). So the alternative list may look similar to this:
    - Classic Shell
    - 7-Zip v9.20
    - FreeCommander
    - VeraCrypt
    - TightVNC
    - Firefox
    - MPC-HC
    - OpenOffice
    - Gimp
    - Audacity
and other apps for work and to replace or to extend Win10 builtin "features"...
