Microsoft Edge Browser Keeps Losing Users Despite Windows 10 Push

    Posted: 04 Jan 2016

Edge is Microsoft's new browser for Windows 10 that's supposed to be a stronger rival for the likes of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, but it seems that at least for now, its adoption is well below expectations.

    Hi there

Not surprising -- if it doesn't support legacy stuff, can't be used in Excel for obtaining data from web ( In EXCEL Get external data -->from web which uses IE), doesn't support a load of extensions and add ins it's only going to be an "Also Ran" in a very crowded field.

Ms should perhaps have completed the product before releasing it -- do you seriously (outside home users and some hobbyists) want to trust your everyday work to an unfinished and still being developed product.

IMO ms would have been better to concentrate say on an update to IE12 which would allow sysadmins etc to switch off all the security and older "Nasty things" in IE.

It's also one thing developing a browser to support the latest technology - but what about the problems when people want to access websites that are YEARS old and probably won't get updated for years.

Ms Office needs to integrate with the Internet -- so far at least as far as EXCEL is concerned (a HUGELY used product) there's no saying when or even IF ms will change it to support Edge for the get external data feature.

    Cheers

personally I am only using edge on my laptop running windows 10 pro. it is very nice to use a browser that doesn't crash every 5 minutes like internet explorer does. so far edge is as good as apple's safari on my mac desktop.

Given that FF and Chrome are both more developed and tested browsers I'm not surprised at this report. I use Edge for this forum and for testing my website.. it works just fine as far as I'm concerned and when new versions come out then we can really judge it better..

Highly agree with you there no crashes or freezes at all since only using Edge
IE11 used to crash and freeze on all my systems I look after and run.
If it had of just been on one system I put of put it down to the system its self
but to have it freeze on every one all different makes then it was IE11

I see you have still not fixed your systems yet, as pointed out many times this is not normal behaviour

Chrome, Firefox, IE and others are not all faulty
Do you have example sites that crash all browsers except Edge?

Jimbo is spot on. IE, and the other browsers, all support extensions/add-ons. Edge was not ready for prime time. Not just due to the extensions issue, but functionality in general. The browser is an ad fest for every site I visit with it.(Even with adobe turned off.) It would have been better too if you could remove Edge. That way the Insiders etc. could use it and provide feedback, and the rest of us could remove it like we can IE.

Yes for example when I used to use google search, you tube, also several other sites and windows 8 forum
But not since dumping IE11 I have also dumped google search in favour of Bing.
Also every thing works as it should for me with Edge can get to where I want to so that is all I worry about.
You tube I am on a lot also Net Flix and they don't stutter or freeze like they did with IE11 or Chrome.
I have Acer, HP, Toshiba laptops and they where all new and every single one used to have some problem with IE11 now all on Edge no problems since
Being as 2 HP laptops are on 24/7 for emails and business cannot afford to have them freeze otherwise my grand daughter will lose money.
Buying and selling cars, burger vans etc
