Windows 10 available as a free upgrade FOR THE FIRST YEAR?
Does that mean one has to buy or pay after that year, like a contract that expires every year?

thanks Dave,
then i will have some work to do on 6 computers.

The way it says Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 makes me think those of us with Windows 8.0 will have to go to 8.1 then 10.
There are few users that can't get there from here. The Store upgrade fails or they don't meet the hardware requirements for 8.1. Now that 8.1 Media is available, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help some should be able to do a clean install to get there. I'm not sure what you'd do if you have one of those unsupported CPU's that will run 8 but not 8.1? It likely won't support 10 either?
I'd have to do some reading to figure it out. That's great unless you have more than 4 gig of RAM and a dedicated video card with its own onboard RAM. It will work but you won't be able to make maximum use of your hardware. It's too early in the day for me to go spelunking this stuff. Maybe latter.
I only have the Laptop. There's no way to bail myself out if the upgrade hangs other than restoring an 8.0 image. If I was going to change the Windows version I'd probably go to W7 Pro to get my glass back rather than installing something that's essentially the same(barring some killer feature that hasn't been revealed.)
Let's see what happens when the next preview is released. :)
