May not work if Microsoft does not extend the free upgrade year.
I find that rather surprising in contrast to the immediate rejection people had for 8 being labeled the "Mobile OS" back in early 2012 when first seen. In contrast MS finally decided to get it together again finally realizing that 7 had brought in previous success and was the road to follow while still introducing the dual platform type of Windows and switching from Windows sold in stores to Windows as the new update.
The promotional offer of the free upgrade to 10 also has a second purpose of fighting piracy that had been going on for some time with not only 7 but Vista and XP media. Now with the upgrade to 10 even from a bogey MS would see that you are running a legit copy of Windows.
There's a two way street there. You get an updated successor to 7 with the improvements under the hood but not the "Metro In You Face" nonsense MS tried pushing with 8 and why they no longer even mention that one! 10 should have been what they worked out first to be the next to follow 7 in actually but MS got lazy!
As far as how good 10 is it acts well and performs well with critics on both side of the 10/7 dispute. So far it was worth buying a 10 license since most everything that ran on 7 besides the need to see a few programs get newer versions like the av software and a few others will run without problem on 10. And once you get past the initial GUI appearance changes it acts a bit more like 7 then 8 did for sure but still sees the Stripped down form of WMP and only with the free upgrade do you get the new Windows DVD Player added in as an update.
Well yes, I would agree that Windows 10 is more stable than any Windows 9x build (that's a silly comparison comparing any Windows NT 6x kernel to a hybrid DOS/Protected OS), and although I liked Windows XP, I'd agree that the Windows NT 6x kernel (whether that's Vista, 7, 8x or 10) is vastly more stable.
But you've countless times mentioned all of the bad experiences that you've had on Vista and Windows 7, when I've never experienced any on Windows 7 at all. There has to be a reason that Windows 7 has been SO WIDELY ACCEPTED in corporations and in homes. Users really like it. And I admit that I'm not even a big Windows 7 fan myself, as I like 8 better. But I understand its success.
I'm not sure why you and a few others are soooo sensitive about anyone poking holes in Windows 10. It's an OS, and it doesn't have feelings. There are lots of things that some people will NOT like about Windows 10. In my case, the TP builds and the final products failed to WOW me. And I hate the UI changes. Those are GOOD ENOUGH reasons to dislike it, and I'm free to post about that disdain. And I, nor WHS, or Trust No One need to feel we have shut our mouths and go away.
It is perfectly valid to NOT like Windows 10 and express it. I hear you endlessly go on about how Windows 10 and especially Edge are the best things invented since Christmas. You contrast that by saying Vista and Windows 7 are complete doo doo. I don't agree with you whatsoever, but I read it and observe. Because who knows, I may just learn something one day from you. That's the beauty of open and fair communication. And I will do my damnest to uphold that.
I am also on windows 7 forum but I never go on there and have a go I look at it and if I can help with a problem then I post if not I just log off.
I did not like vista or windows 8 but I just put up with the OS and used 3rd party apps to get over the problems that where coming up,
So when 8.1 came available I started to like it more
Since windows 10 I have dumped most of the 3rd party apps and moving more towards the apps in the store.
The 3rd party apps I do have are the paid for versions.
My friend who has windows 7 Pro on his laptop will in the next week or so move over to windows 10 as he has tried my laptop with 10 on it and he loves it.
I have not pushed or advised him, he has made his own mind up and asked would I help him.
His remark was likes the look of it, and how everything is better to hand and he wants to use Edge as he found it far better to use than Chrome and IE1O which is finishing.
minus all that cloud sync stuff .. for me windows 10 is better than win 7 and on pair with win xp if not better
Precisely! Even when 7 was first seen in beta and then onto RTM it had it's own bugs taking some time and gradually settled with SP1. With 10 however you won't have to be waiting for any SP1 or SP2 since there won't be any! Everything will already be on regular updates. That will most likely include the enabling of support for new items if not seen in the Threshold 3 type build which will appear like any other update but larger in size.
As for hardwares manufacturers themselves will only any particular version for so long as nothing would be found as far as support for Vista/XP when going to buy or build a new machine! Sooner or later you won't seeing any 7 drivers either since those stop usually before MS stop providing anything for 7 like it's 2020 end of cycle. Yet while MS supposedly stopped all sales of systems running 7 there's no worry on still finding new older model however desktops and laptops, notebooks, and other compacts still running 7 without even bothering to look at EBay where anything and everything is sold! Amazon still has plenty of sellers as well as Newegg.
The real travesty however isn't with 10 at all but how MS slammed people with 8! and why you never never see any mention of 8 while you will hear about 8.1! 8 was a major fumble on their part there in how they trashed the OS! 10 on the other hand as I was saying before is where 8 should have been as the next to come if MS had been following the progression of 7 over Vista in order to continue on the productive direction. But they had too much attention focused on Surface and RT simply borrowing that OS's gui for 8! The fact that 10 still runs on 1gb on the other hand shows how MS has made progress under the hood where previous versions like the XP to Vista debacle was from MS understating what Vista needed for memory namely 1gb or more but specifying 512mb only which flopped! Without this type of progress 10 would likely require 6-8gb rather the bare minimum of only 1gb with 4-8gb a good call for the 64bit flavor.
