Someone who wants to analyze the business side of Microsoft and its successes or failures may want to know how Microsoft amassed the number of sales or installs that they have. Perhaps it serves as a barometer to predict future sales trends, or future OS usage trends.

Make no mistake, Microsoft wants Windows 10 to revitalize PC/notebook sales as part of its mission. So have the free upgrades done that? Maybe. Maybe not. So nothing wrong with looking at the numbers objectively.
Point taken. Though online, on forums like this, it seems more likely that someone's trying to point out that Windows 10 is a failure because they don't like it for some reason or another.

II want to stay on a past OS that's still receiving updates, I should be able to do so without being nagged. I loathe how you guys attempt to belittle that point. If I'm honouring EULA terms of a still supported OS, I should have able to use the product without being pushed into a new OS I don't want.
I've never heard such rubbish.. If you don't like Windows 10 don't install it. If you don't know how to install it (or you don't know how to not install it) then live with whatever life throws at you. You can always get the internet on your phone or TV.

I watch TV sometimes and advertisements nag me to buy different kinds of cheese or go on holiday to Croatia rather than Cuba. Should I complain about the EULA I signed with my TV provider that I'm not interested as I don't speak Russian?

I agree with most of what you say Jody, but not this. Whether 10 is better or not, if a user is incapable of deciding how to answer the question "do you want to upgrade" then they should be upgraded.

I'm not sure how what I said was rubbish. People click on things without thinking sometimes, and that includes the best of us. Ever worked under pressure on someone's system for hours on end? You'd be surprised what happens (that's why I went back to radio)
    :)

@dencal, last time I checked this is a "Windows 10 Forum"; not a "I must love Windows 10 Forum", so anyone who hates the OS or Microsoft's marketing tactics is just as welcome to post here as are the fans of the OS. Again, I am an open-minded person, as I have said that as Windows 10 develops, there may end up some killer feature that I've got to have, I may switch to the OS someday.

Hey, when I read someone who posts about how Windows 10 and especially Edge are the best thing since sliced bread, and everything before it was crap, that's just as silly. That's simply not true. All of Microsoft's product lines have successes and failures. Just because I dislike Windows 10, does not mean I lack an open mind, nor should it make me any less welcome to post here.

Windows 10 is great on my computer, I don't like Edge, and I don't really care if anyone else likes, doesn't like, hates, can't stand, loves, etc. either. If every single Windows 10 upgrade was uninstalled, why should I care? It's their computers, not mine.

And IMHO, pointing to the 200 million number as a Grand Microsoft Success is just as silly as pointing to it as a failure.

I just get a bit unnerved when people don't actually BELIEVE that I really like the upgrade, or that their points against it don't concern me. No, I am not a Microsoft employee/shill/etc.

By the way, am I reading right that you're in radio?

Yeah I do traffic reporting for an outsourcing operation, which means I get to be on a number of Toronto and Hamilton area stations. The sad part though is that means a lot of jobs gone at the radio station level. I know that's just business, but it's still sad to see the jobs disappear.

Anyway, I love being on the air. I still get excited about it like a big kid does at Christmas. I backed out of it for twenty or so years to develop an IT career, but I wasn't happy in the corporate scheme of things any more.

    Have a good day.

Windows 10 advertising though is much more like buying a DVD because you like that film, then having adverts pop up on screen several times , requiring you to click on your remote on a certain place on the screen to continue, Or like your TV doing the same.
