Intresting, Windows 10 is better, but not as good as 7 as of now.But seems like Windows 10 is on a good road ahead.
I wouldn't say one is so much better then the other when you look at how despite 10 now being twice the size of 7 it still performs up there along with 7 in contrast to other versions. What MS realized following how 8 got the "Mobile OS" label by most on the spot due to how MS fumbled the ball ripping things out people were expecting and then slapping a mobile type touchscreen gui had the many up in arms! MS would have been better off and as it turned to wait a couple of versions worth of effort to introduce the dual platform OS but instead rushed to get only a partial job out like XP had been rushed out after ME flopped which of course saw 8 Flop around!

I disagree. Windows 10 is much, much better than Windows 7; however, as with Windows 7, there are a few things I could live without. :)
10 is now where 8 should have started off at! That would be a progression from the success 7 saw after Vista was an eye sore for many. I wouldn't say is so much more tremendously better then 7 but a progression seeing improvements in areas where 7 had prevailed over the previous versions without a doubt!

Someone previously asked what could Win7 do better that Win10 could not.
I am on the Insider fast ring, and one thing I will point out is visual appearance and personalization. This may not seem like much, but if you can't give Win10 the look/feel you desire, your User experience goes down.
Win10 displays 2-dimensional while Win7 was in 3 (the appearance of). This makes Win10 more like the infamous Google quote, Win10 is really Win1. Nothing here looks modern but, rather cheap, poorly done.
Second, I and many others have asked for, a personalization ability similar to what Win7 has. Win10 doesn't hold a candle to Win7 in this regard.

While these have nothing to do with performance, Win10 is still lacking.
Micrsoft still won't provide a functional DVD player with Win10. How many have asked for this? And to have to pay for the crap they do offer? That is so insulting.
The programs they removed with Win10. 1st, the installed programs (bloatware as some call them). Some of those were paid for programs in Windows 8/8.1 (free with Win7).
The current updates (the latest Build 11082 included) deleting software from personal computers (mine included), claiming they are not compatible. Reinstallation of these programs and they are still running perfectly on my system. Win7 updates never removed software on my system, especially without my permission.
Forced driver updates, especially when these updates causes system instability. I have since turned off the option of Microsoft providing my drivers. I'll get them myself from the hardware mfg directly, when I want them.

Win7 is much better in a lot of respects. But it should always come down to the owner of the computer. Does he/she desire such an update? Microsoft does not respect the owner, nor their wishes.

I follow the online news daily about Win10. I have done so since last April.
The day I read 200 Million from Microsoft, I also read only 160 from another online source not Microsoft (with numbers/sources to back that up).
Microsoft requires a large number of Win10 users simply because Windows as a service requires advertising in order for them to show a profit. No large user base, no large profit margin. That makes stockholders nervous. Windows as a service is a gamble, and Microsoft is going to push, and push hard, to make it work.
I too believe, the Update deadline will be extended past July. Only time will tell.
10 can be customized! It just takes a bit longer for things to get done in that area since you are now seeing a combination of GUIs rather then the single desktop interface seen with 7 and earlier versions. MS actually stripped Windows down with 8 and now for the freebie offer to promote 10 is tossing in their new Windows DVD Player $15 app free for the upgrade only not if for some reason the upgrade comes out buggy and has to be replaced you lose! That arrives as an early update for 10 upgrades.

Effective dvd player found for the 64bit 10 would be VLC! Upon giving the DVDFab 9 Player(freeware program) a try out on the main and second remote system as well as the laptop that was upgraded it ran into problems playing dvd movies while it will play all types of video files. VLC still plays most files while the dvd movie that wouldn't even run on DVDFab played normally on VLC! The fact is however the laptop is now used primarily for dvd movie and video file playback as well as watching shows on the web once logged into an account first while still having 7 on and then the 10 upgrade. With 7 however WMP was the ticket there.

I don't understand why anybody would waste their time with 10. Where is the gain.

    1. It's free..
    2. I like it more than 8/8.1 and 7..
3.The new start menu is really good

    4. Finally, it's going to get the focus of all future development and the others will not.

My question is this.. if there is no software or driver compatibility issues why stick with say 7 or 8??

Because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am not looking for trouble with a new OS version as long as my old version works.

Well.. I can agree but Win10.. it just works like 7/8. And.. anyone can still use 10 and if it's not up to ones liking.. just roll back to the previous OS. I have a very basic set up and to date I haven't had a single show stopping issue with 10. It's rock stable and it just gets the job done for me. So it was a no brainier for me to upgrade.

But as usual this is only my 2c and YMMV..

To me, the biggest gain of Windows 10 is Windows-as-a-Service. That implies that Microsoft commits itself to servicing the OS as long as Microsoft itself exists, i.e. likely beyond 2020 (end of Windows 7), likely beyond 2023 (end of Windows 8.1)

Of course, your hardware will age, and if you think that your hardware will die before those years anyway, then the WaaS gain and upgrading to Windows 10 is moot. But at least my hardware tends to live for a long, long time. I have a Windows XP machine that I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it still receives ALL Windows Updates. Maybe at some point in the future, it can only receive security updates. I receive the GWX nags on that machine too, and my hope is that if I upgrade to Windows 10, then I will receive at least the security updates until the machine dies. That's VERY good value that Microsoft provides, keeping computers working and secure for well over a decade.

The biggest issue with Windows 10 currently is that some forced updates have subtle or not so subtle bugs. That's not really a problem for a hobby computer, but it can be a problem for more important computers.

Exactly, it's the bugs I don't want to deal with. It is a waste of time for no gain. I will stick to 7 as long as possible.

Well, Windows-as-a-Service is a long term gain, the gains will grow over time. The 'current bugs' issue is a short term pain, the bugs will decrease as Windows 10 matures. It is thus a matter of weighing long term gain vs short term pain.

Over time, the long term gains will certainly prevail over the short term pains, the question is when that will happen. 50% of me is hoping for 'before July 29, 2016' and 50% of me is hoping for 'extension of free upgrade beyond July 29, 2016'. One year is a pretty short time frame for an OS (any OS) to mature.
