We agree. My prices may be low but I was thinking like you Jeff with the windows 7 being the most popular operating system worldwide Microsoft is going to have to do something to attract people away from windows 7. Now, if Microsoft does something like subscription based operating that will not work. Not everyone wants another bill. Microsoft got to remember there are other alternatives operating system out there and not just Linux.
Trust's prices are not realistic for a first release,
Since 8 did not follow that I would seriously doubt Microsoft would come out the gate with a nag like that,
It would be as popular as the Slate :)
I am not as knowledgeable as all of you are, but I do agree about W 7, it's my favorite so far. I started with 98 and I think with every new OS system I have used got better and faster except for ME. W 8 was very fast, but don't know how much of that is Acer. My W 7 has always been slow booting but that doesn't bother me at all. It is faster over all than the previous versions have been. I do not like tiles in 8 and would hate for all future systems to have them.
I will be expecting 10 to be less than $100 for us testers. Also I've been running 10 on the same partition as 8, using HyperOS2014 and it has taken everything I've thrown at it, even an old graphics card: 10 knew it, installed drivers, no restart. This reminded me of 95, when computers obeyed my wishes, not theirs like 8/Vista do!
I don't see tester's getting any discounts, it would be nice, I just don't think it will happen. I think MS realizes that there will be no huge adoption of Windows 10, and it will take years before it may become relevant, if ever.
You were fortunate...
One of the last updates, wiped my hard drive (dual boot system), and my other one it always had duplicate log in pictures on start up. So I just removed them and haven't re-installed anything since, maybe when CP comes out I will look at that.
Jeff, not everyone can afford a new computer, new operating system, or even high speed internet. Not all countries have discount internet service and free computers for low income users. Some people get computers as gifts.
The key to more windows 10 users it has to be cheap and have no subscription requirement, otherwise I don't think windows 10 will succeeded.
There are several issues I don't like especially this one.
Microsoft confirms latest Windows 10 Technical Preview bricks harddisks | Myce.com
That stopped me from testing windows 10 & removing it. I hope Microsoft fixes that issue with the new preview release.

Being mainly a DAW user, hard drive standby problems have never been an issue. All sleeping types modes are disabled, but I shall test this on my, so far, faultless set-up.
