I don't think anybody can win this discussion. It is like between people who like beer and others who like wine.
The "battle" has been won.
The market has spoken and apparently almost everyone loves the Ribbon (unlike Metro).
I realise that I'm in the minority with my opinions about the Ribbon.
It is mysteriously loved by lots of people (just like Chrome).

I don't see the logic in needing to view unavailable commands that won't show or enable themselves without a particular object in question.
So you don't RTFM before you use stuff?
That doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Back when software used to come with real manuals (i.e. books) we used to RTFM to learn how to find out what it could do and how to do it (i.e. how to use it).

I depend heavily on the Idiot's Guides (seriously).

Well, I learned something new today.

Unfortunately that is true.
It's a fantastic improvement that when you can't connect to the Internet, the Help files offer "go online" as an answer.
The Help files that come with most software these days are totally useless, which is why sites like SevenForums, EightForums and TenForums are so crucial.

I am afraid you are right. Early November we had no internet for 3 days because ATT screwed up. That was worse than a diet. When it came back on, my wife was 'blessed' with 625 mails. She is still working on the backlog. We are really hard wired to that internet.
