They like the word "Start" too much to drop that. :)

It's still called a Start menu because of legacy coding and the fact programs will write a shortcut or entry to the Start menu directory in the ProgramData or appdata so they can't really change that.

In the TP build of 10, there's a registry edit you can do that enables a very early and crude build of the new Windows 10 Start Screen. I posted about this on a thread a while ago...

ALL sorts of new goodies like vertical tiles and whatnot and being able to spell out THIS IS BS just fine.
Oh, I was only referring to how it is referenced in conversation. They can leave all of the programming alone. I just find it difficult when sped redding to differentiate between the two menus. I have to go back and read the words very carefully to make sure that I understand which one the member is talking about.

    It's probably just me

I was only joking about making the tiles spell anything, although a few iterations did look like H P or O F F - purely accidental!

    Happy New Year!

    Except ... MS pre-empted you.

Hmmmmm, have to look at synonyms for menu perhaps.

Menu - Synonyms and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary
    menu noun
    1) a list of foods served at or available for a meal
the menu at the fancy restaurant listed many dishes that I had never heard of
    Synonyms: card
Related Words: chow, chuck [chiefly West], cuisine, fare, grub, provender, table
    Phrases: bill of fare

    2) a record of a series of items (as names or titles) usually arranged according to some system
checked the menu of available books
Synonyms: canon, catalog (or catalogue), checklist, listing, menu, register, registry, roll, roll call, roster, schedule, table
Related Words: agenda, bibliography, catalogue raisonné, compendium, compilation, directory, docket, enumeration, glossary, index, inventory, manifest, payroll; calendar, chronology, timetable

    3) food eaten or prepared for eating at one time <a nine-course menu that consisted of pocket-size portions of the chef's specialties>
Synonyms: chow, feed, menu, mess, refection, repast, table
Related Words: board; breakfast, buffet, collation, dinner, lunch, luncheon, refreshments, smorgasbord, snack, supper, tea; bite, gulp, morsel, serving, taste; banquet, feast, regale, spread; bake, barbecue (also barbeque), clambake, cookout, fry, fry-up [British], luau, picnic, potluck, roast

How about Start Index - no wait ... I was the one who wants Start out of the name - ROTFLMAO!

Must be close to New Year's celebration time (I'm already punch driunk after a fresh install of Win10 that didn't go as expected - that plus it's completely different using the Preview ISO - wasted about a month of testing - good thing clients kept me busy for most of the month).

It's already 2015 in parts of Asia!

    Peace and good will.
