is this 10586 ISO and upgrade? not a full install?
The same ISO can be used to clean-install Windows 10 (format) or to upgrade Windows 7/8 to 10 or to upgrade Windows 10 build 10240 (anything lower than 10586) to build 10586, like in your case. After the upgrade with the ISO you will have build 10586.0 (without any updates yet). After doing all the updates and this last cumulative update KB3120677 you will go to build 10586.14 which is the highest public version yet.

so the iso image, after starting the install, gets to the point where it says "Install Windows 10 Pro" "Keep personal files and apps".

This is just an upgrade? right? it's not going to format or lose anything? Correct?

I've backed up but I really don't want to reinstall everything.

If you check " Keep all files and programs " then Wds will keep all as is .

.14 seems faster than .11 did. Maybe that's because some of my earlier privacy settings (in 10240?) were restored?

Someone here will probably say I'm hallucinating or making it up, but I thought that well before I posted in this thread.

Since I'm the only one who uses my computer, I don't care if anyone else thinks I am wrong.

thanks RonCFL. The previous "upgrades" didn't have those options so I was uncomfortable with continuing.

Has already happened, but that person (I'd call him/her something else, but I don't want to get banned), doesn't use my computer. So, what do they know?!

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3120677) Error

In reference to the update "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3120677) - Error 0x800706d9" after trying everything I could with no luck including a clean start and trying to download the update from Microsoft catalogue which also errored out I found this site where I was able to download and install the update with absolutely no problems or errors, http://ms-vnext.net/UpdateArchive/. I hope this helps all that are having a problem installing this update.

I never did an upgrade, always clean installs since the beginning as was given a retail key as a present but I find running the ISO through MSMG Toolkit to remove packages I don't need and which removes most of the telemetry then using a tool called Toggle Tweaker after install works the best to keep it under control and saves loads of time as no need to go through all the reg tweaks manually and so far I've had no issues with Win 10
