After 6 successive "Check for Updates" attempts which generated a 0x8009310b error, I was finally able to install the update using the direct download link for 64-bit systems. Thanks again, Laser!

Welcome Pro .(BTW .. I prefer to do a clean install , It's way much better and faster ..)
"Faster" is relative. If you mean the computer will be faster, yes this is the case with a fresh installation. But if one has tons of programs to reinstall an upgrade (keep everything) is way faster (to do) than a clean-install.

I am hoping one of these updates will fix the Sleep Mode - Blue Screen problem. W10 has a serious power management issue on some laptops (mine).

The same ISO can be used to clean-install Windows 10 (format) or to upgrade Windows 7/8 to 10 or to upgrade Windows 10 build 10240 (anything lower than 10586) to build 10586, like in your case. After the upgrade with the ISO you will have build 10586.0 (without any updates yet). After doing all the updates and this last cumulative update KB3120677 you will go to build 10586.14 which is the highest public version yet.

    Attachment 50532
After installation with ISO, and responding to "find new updates" the upgrade brought me up to 10586.14 with out additional KB3210677 needed.
And I agree that speed is much faster to upgrade because of the ton of applications that I have installed. It usually takes me several weeks to move to a new computer I prefer clean installs but there is a trade off.

That is why I have only upgraded to now as if I did a clean install it would take me ages to re put them back in.
After the next big upgrade depending how it goes I may then clean install. but until then I will just do upgrades on all my systems I look after.

Unless they included the update in the ISO, since you have version 10586.14 the update was done successfully.

Back in the old days, I used to reformat my C drive and clean install everything at least once a year. But with many more installed programs and extensive customization, that's now become too daunting a task unless I see a clear need for it. With everything currently chugging along smoothly with 1511 on all my PCs, what's clear is there's not any need. :)

I cannot yet install the update in my test computer. I have disabled it (hidden it) with the show/hide tool. If anyone can tell me what's wrong and how to fix it, I would appreciate that. Thank you. See my original post here.

Don't know whether this will help in your case, but this is what I do anytime an update (usually cumulative) won't install:

    1- Run sfc /scannow
    2- Reboot
    3- Delete contents of C:\Windows\Software Distribution\Download (don't reboot)
    4- Try update again

I also had trouble getting it to run from WU on my wife's laptop this morning. I went ahead and ran setup from the downloaded ISO and it then went fine - can't tell you how to fix your failure, only suggesting alternate route.
